Is waiting to get my friggen fingerprints. I have been waiting and waiting for them to call my tab
and so far it has been 2 hours and only recently did an officer pop out of the door and tell me that maybe if you hope hard enough and wish upon a star and no one gets arrested then perhaps if your lucky it will be thirty more minutes. Oh god. to To top it off downtown is a nuthouse. Got any horror stories?
Which is why I went the Trust route. No fingerprints, no photos and best of all, no CLEO signature.
The hardest part for me is writing those frigging $200 checks! 
My CLEO signs off with no problem, and the fingerprint girl knows me by first name at the sheriffs station. What I hate is the long wait AFTER you send everything in, having spent a lot of money on whatever weapon or accessory you wanted, but can’t have yet, until ATF gives you its blessing. If you are not able to get approved for the first stamp, then they sure are not going to approve the second, or the 5th either. I don’t understand the long wait. I guess it is what it is.
Make some new friends, preferably Police Officer friends. I usually go to their house and get my fingerprints done haha.
I went to a passport store. Pics and prints all in one step, no waiting.
No prob with that in my area…
I’m pretty sure the hardest part is the waiting after they cash your check 
YEah, that is my least favorite part also.
Mine is waiting for the pw to clear…went the trust route this last time but we can get fingerprints at the local pd in 5mins.
Bonus…the gals up front who do them are pretty cute too.
One nice thing about Maricopa County, AZ: they’re very NFA-friendly at the Sheriff’s Office. They even have their own form to do local BG checks, and when I asked for one, they simply said “How many do you need?” Fingerprints are quick and easy, and the BG check on my suppressor was done in under a week. The only pain is navigating downtown Phoenix, which is full of one-way streets and seems to be perpetually under construction.
Prints are $5 and take 10 minutes where I live. Same with passport photos (well, they’re more like $7.50 at Walgreens).
I’m with kdc on this one; the months of waiting to get the stamp is the hardest part for me!
When was the last time you went there? I dropped my form off to them in August and it wasn’t ready until October. 7 weeks they had the damn thing and it takes 45 minutes just to park and get in there. Shit, my SBR paperwork was pending less time than that. I’m thankful Arpaio signs off on them but it’s not necessary to do a background check on someone who’s gonna have it done again by ATF. Waste of $$ IMO.
This was in 2007, maybe all the budget cuts are coming due.
The CLEO’s signature is the indicator that the applicant is known to them and that locally, there is no knowledge of any reason that person can not possess the subject NFA item.
luckily my dad is on the Sheriff Dept, and is running for Sheriff this election. Last year when I built my SBR all I had to do was walk in and the ladies at the reception desk in the Jail knew me(dad has been on SD for 26yrs now). The Sheriff signed off right away and was actually interested in having me build him one once I got mine done.
Makes my experience when I was in Merrimack NH about 10 years ago sound like a dream. Back when I was doing contract work and had money and was single I did a few NFA items.
First time I went in, the CoP wanted me to have a NH carry permit ($10, 1 week wait, no pics, no nothing). I had an “out of state” NH license as I had just moved in to the state shortly before but he wanted me to get the NH carry permit for residents.
No problem, did that,
I could walk in 24 hours a day to get finger prints, no charge, and if there was no one there to do it they would call an officer in from patrol. Once guy saw the cards after coming in one Sat morning and asked what I was getting. Told him. Turns out he had a few items and knew lots of the people I did.
The signature was also just wait a few minutes for the chief to finish up whatever he was doing and he would sign it. Once he was in a staff meeting. I said I would wait. After about 30 min they decided to go interrupt his staff meeting to get me signed. (I did not ask for or expect that! and was happy to wait for his meeting to finish). Once the CoP was out of town and so his asst had me in to his office, asked me a few questions, and then signed.
Now, 10 years later, married, family, no contract jobs, no money, most of that stuff has been sold off again
Has anyone tried contacting the NFA branch lately of ATF? I’ve tried several times on Friday, Monday, and today (Wednesday) and nobody ever answers the phone, I just get the general mailbox. Not sure what’s going on there.
Never mind, they are closed today due to weather.
i just called last week or somthing… they answered. told me to fuck off and die, but they answered.
as far as fingerprints- the one time i got prints for an individual Form 1, it cost me $10 and 20 minutes… probably wouldn’t have taken that long, but it was like 1pm and visiting hours were in full effect. SO was crammed and a lot of people had business to tend to.
sounds like you’re in a busy area- i’d suggest stepping out and visiting a rural SO in the future. you aren’t under any obligation to do it at the busiest agency in your AO, afterall.
