This colorful ten minute video is both very interesting as well as educational. It was sent to me from another pro-2A gentleman. As someone who is fairly familiar with such topics, I learned a lot from it regardless. It explains with great method and simplicity the fundamental differences between a Democracy and a Republic.
It will likely capture you after the first couple of minutes, I assure you. Really interesting stuff.
I’ve heard a pure democracy described as two wolves and one lamb voting on what they want to eat for dinner. Gross oversimplification but pretty darn close.
Rush Limbaugh has described pure democracy as “mob rules”.
A decent primer but I noticed they didn’t make reference to a plutocracy (government by the wealthy) which is what we appear to have at this time. Recent economic events illustrate just how much control the wealthy have when both a Republican president seeking to leave office with dignity intact or a new Democratic president seeking to chart a new course are both blackmailed by monied interests to adopt policies which were anathema to each.
It’s a shopworn phrase, but still quite appropriate–we have the best government money can buy.
