The Allure of 20 Rd Magazines

Absolutely the case, I had been hitting them up for two a week for a while and the number in stock didn’t budge until it was posted here that they were on close out. I ordered two last night and at that time they had 77 in stock, now they are out. I received an order confirmation from them but not a shipping confirmation. I guess we’ll see if I placed my order in time or not.

ASC 20 rounders any good?

I’ve had good luck with the Brownell’s 20rd magazines.

Thank you everyone to all of your replies!

I see most people here have similar uses/purposes for them. I can see that they are quite popular at least on this board. I only recently started looking at the Lancer’s, but did notice they were priced the same as the 30’s. I also saw that some of the USGI 20’s were more expensive than the 30’s as well.

Is this a general trend across all brands? I don’t think production costs are any larger on 20’s than 30’s.

20’s are inherently cheaper to manufacture than 30’s, but they don’t sell nearly as well as 30-rounders do. More sales = more production = lesser cost due to volume, so the lower cost of manufacturing 20’s is almost a wash with the discount due to volume of the 30’s, hence the similarity in price.

I’ve been watching the stock numbers on them because I wanted to get a few before they ran out and I ALMOST missed my chance. When I placed my order for them this morning they had 22. That was a close one!

I think everyone that got their order through will receive their mags, 44mag’s inventory system is pretty accurate. Instantly after I placed my order the in stock number changed according to the number of magazines I ordered.

Hopefully they start stocking 20 rounders under the OKAY brand because they are honestly my favorite capacity magazine.

I would go with PMAG 20’s but one of my lowers doesn’t like the Gen 3 20’s so I try and stay away from them.

I just found this thread what is funny is I just bought my first 20 yesterday, but only for one reason. So I can keep a load mag in my rifle while it is in its racquet case, I can’t leave a 30 in the mag well as it sticks out too far to close the case.

Empty chamber.

After reading through this thread, I got all excited and ran down to the LGS to pick up some 20 round magazines. After all, it satisfies my CDO that one mag equals 1 box of ammo.

But when I got to the store, I discovered that one 40 round mag was much cheaper than two 20 round mags and it holds two boxes of ammo! Thus was my CDO doubly satified! Win, win! I bought the 40 rounder in the pretty sand color instead.

To make up for it, I bought a 10 round mag (for bench work) and a 25 round mag for the Big Smith. As I’ve already one 25 round mag, that’s three boxes of 308. My CDO is suspicious of the math but remains mollified for the moment

Because if this thread I ended up at 44mag and I bought some of the last 20 round NHMTG mags.

Damn you people

I used to like 20’s for bench and prone until I discovered that the 30 made a great ersatz monopod capable of allowing me to exploit my rifle to about the maximum of its accuracy (around 1 MOA, I wager).

I wonder about the ASC 20-rounders as well. I believe that, given faithful reproduction, the straight-body design is inherently reliable. Why stainless, though? Is it cheaper than aluminum?

About the OKAY 20’s… I do notice that NHMTG and OKAY are both located in New Britain, CT. Probably not mere coincidence. The Firearm Blog recently stated they were going to do a review of the new OKAY mags but so far I see only ad copy.

Okay, NHMTG, and Colt are one and the same.

44mag will have the same 20 round mags under the Okay name.

The problem with using the mag as a monopod during bench work is there is usually a change in POI

20rd NHMTG’s are back in stock at 44mag

This was posted on the NHMTG website. Appears they are just transferring back over to the Okay name.

They are showing 422 in stock.

Oh hurrah! 20 rounders for all!

Brush guns use 20’s with a 30 for backup. I don’t care who you are, carrying less weight on the gun while doing stuff is a positive if you aren’t actively pulling the trigger. My irons only gun is home to one of my 20 round mags. The other 20 round mag is… somewhere.

Some executive security types prefer 20s as they can be neatly carried in a pocket at all times, eliminating the “magazines” aspect of the concern with grabbing rifle and magazines on the fly out of a vehicle.

I have lots of 50 year old colt 20s but the magpul 20s are more reliable for me.
