Stratus .22 can and AR15 threads?

Was wondering if any of you guys out there are running a Tactical Innovations Stratus .22 suppressor on your AR15 with a .22LR conversion kit?

I’ve tried twice now to thread my Stratus can onto 2 different AR15 uppers and it doesn’t thread all the way on, it goes almost exactly 3/4 of the way down. I’m referring to the depth of the threading inside the female end of the suppressor here, just for clarification. It threads onto my AR’s barrel just fine, it just doesn’t thread all the way down. There’s roughly a 1/4 inch gap between the suppressor and base of the barrel’s threads of exposed threads. I know you’re never supposed to use a crush washer with a silencer, but does that just refer to a silencer’s QD attachment (ie flash hider or muzzle brake attachment), or does it also apply to thread-on cans as well? Because it looks like if I just used a crush washer I wouldn’t have any issues.

Should it be able to screw ALL the way down onto the barrel and be flush?

I’m not sure if I simply need to turn the can “harder” (ie apply more torque/muscle to it) or what. I’m afraid of damaging the suppressor’s threading or turning it on there so tight that I’ll have major issues getting it all off. The reason I say “all off” is because, as most of you already know, the Stratus .22 can can be disassembled for cleaning, so if you screw it on too tightly, it can be hard to get the end-cap off because the suppressor tube has a tendancy to unscrew itself from the damn thing, leaving the end-cap on the host gun’s threading.

So if any of you could help me out here, I’d really appreciate it!

Hi Paul,

Have you had a chance to call TacSol, and pick their brains? They are supposed to be pretty responsive to customers. I’ve called them twice, and found them pretty helpful.

I’m very interested in what you hear. I have their Cascade can on my short list, after I SBR my TacSol M4 upper in a few months. I’m really looking a user-maintainable .22 can, and am debating on the AAC Element or a TacSol.

Good luck, and let us know what your solution is.

His suppressor is Tactical Innovations, not Tactical Solutions.

Ive only used them on .22 pistols with no problems. No experience on the AR though, sorry.

.22 cans are generally threaded to .400. AR’s are generally threaded to .460. I use a spacer on my AR when using a can. If the can threads on too far, the muzzle is too far into the blast chamber. Theis will cause your threads on the barrel to get gunked up and can cause the can to be louder. A couple companies make the spacer. Try Google. I bought 2 and they were only about $7.00. If I can find the name of the company, I’ll post it. I use a TAC65

Reading is fun “duh” mental… sigh. :frowning:

This is what happens when I post before drinking my coffee. Thanks for the catch.

Nothing to see here, move along…

No worries, you’ve had plenty of helpful posts to defer that one;)

Ha! So it wasn’t just me after all… I KNEW I wasn’t crazy! lol:p

I’m gonna order myself a couple of those spacers. However, I’m thinking I want to get an actual .22 upper eventually. They seem to be pretty damn convenient.

Thanks a lot for the info, man. Much appreciated!

The dedicated .22 uppers are usually the correct thread length for a .22 suppressor. My Spikes was already .400.
Only pain about the spacers is they are threaded. Makes them slower to put on and take off if thats any consideration.

Hey, I learned 2 new things in 2 hours, sweet! I was thinking of going the Spikes route, one of their short barrel .22 uppers.

Does the thread-on spacer ever have any issues coming back off due to carbon buildup?
