Status of factory SBRs under the previous AWB?

Pardon the glaring ignorance of my question, gents, but I’ve been overseas continuously for most of the past decade, and I really hadn’t considered this question before today.

What was the status of factory SBRs like the Colt LE 6933 under the previous AWB? Were they, as NFA items, relatively unaffected, or were they somehow even more restricted because of their otherwise AWB-worthy characteristics?

Conventional wisdom would suggest that Title II status would trump a Title I ban, but I don’t recall hearing about a 1994-2004 rush on factory SBRs, so perhaps that wasn’t the case at all.

Does anyone recall how factory SBRs fared during the late unpleasantness?

That’s a good question.

I can remember TOS logic being that you couldn’t even mount a Silencer on a post ban AR since that constituted a flash hiding device.

My guess would be that a 6933 would be just another LE only gun… like the mags, and LE ARs were.

I pretty much blew off the last ban anyway. It was completely unenforceable nonsense.

Army Chief,

Honestly I don’t think that was an issue during the years of the AWB. I would venture to say that since the suppressors or other NFA items are legally owned and registered and fall into a different category it would be a non-issue.

I agree with Mark as well. The last AWB was a complete failure and almost completely unenforceable.
