This article:
‘Spying and Lying’: How Our Constitution Is Under Attack… and Why We Should Be Outraged is written by a friend of mine.
You’ll note the publishers is not one we’d consider “balanced” in its approach, especially on guns/2A issues. I think he makes many solid points that will resonate strongly with members here regarding serious government overreaching.
He’s a solid person, good friend, and I’d want him in my corner as attorney any day. He’s not anti gun, but it’s also not his area of expertise either… I did feel however he made a major mistake in his focus and sent him this response via email:
"Rick. Excellent article. I’d pick one bone with you however. I totally agree on myopic protection of one Amendment being a potentially costly mistake, but I can tell you those who defend the 1st (ACLU et al) are far more myopic on the issue than those who defend the 2d in my experience. Those who defend the 2d vigorously do so because they tend to feel it the most under attack of the Const Amendments and the lynch pin of them all. Ergo, you can’t guarantee the first (or any of the others…) without the 2D.
I’d only have recommended a balanced statement in your article that any group that defends one Amendment without understanding the importance and value of the others (which means they’d be forced to acknowledge the 2D as essential to a Democracy per the Founders intent!) is part of the problem vs the solution. I can tell you those defenders of the 2d are as a rule, VERY concerned about the over reaching of government per your excellent article!
But, had you have actually added that balanced statement, I’d bet the Huffington Post (who has continuously shown itself to be anti gun/anti 2A) would have rejected it."
If you wish to post a response to this article at the linked page above, please be respectful and thoughtful as (1) he’s a personal friend and good guy and (2) we always need to take the higher ground to the anti gun/anti 2A types who frequent that site.
