I at one time had a china copy of the tad softshell and it felt like I was wearing a jacket made of rubber and yeah.
I recall people saying the condor soft shell was the best cheap option for a jacket that would only see maybe 5-6 months of use.
Problem is it has no pockets for your hands like any other jacket in existence.
So what are some good options?

Outdoor Research Ferrosi jacket is really nice. Doesn’t have all the velcro that you would see on the PCU level 5, but has packets and comes in some neutral colors.
Beyond has a sale going on right now. Otherwise, what are you looking for in a jacket, are you looking for tacticool like Condor or what is your idea for a jacket?
I’ve got a $80 Colombia that is great for around town and looks nice with dress pants or khakis and is my day to day, but my KUIU is what I reach for when I go into the woods because its heavier, and more durable and I can wear it while moving in 20 degree temps no problem, then I have stuff from Gander Mtn and other jackets that can be layered as needed.
What are you looking for? Hardshell, softshell, active use, static use, insulation, light insulation, no insulation?
Temp ranges, climate, Wx conditions would help alot.
