Spend my money!

I’ve got a brand new Stag complete lower with A2 stock looking for a nice complete upper in the $550 range. Would like it light and simple. For general shooting and home defense. Let the games begin!

sounds like LMT with a BUIS of your choice to me.

…although im not sure how light it would be relative to anything else.

disclaimer

btw,i have very little first hand experience and im still excited about my new LMT.

Before making some recomendations I would have to ask how dependable you would like the upper? In a post from you in another thread you “Chuckled” over what you pretty much called going overboard in the reliability dept.

In that case, I’d go with one of these.

Woohoo, those give you a big bang for the buck!

Niiice! Those guys have a great reputation.

Seriously, are you guys saying a $350 upper with a good LMT bcg is not going to get the job done?

I just question the idea that if you can’t buy a $1400 AR, you might as well throw rocks at them. Granted, I don’t know a whole lot about AR’s, but isn’t that being extreme?

Maybe that is the minimum…I don’t know. If so, I better go find a good rock pile.

I’m not sure what your goal here is.

On the one hand you seem to make the argument that dollars spent don’t matter and that a $350 upper/barrel is just as good as a $550 one, yet on the other you do not appear to be as confident as you claim because now you’re looking to spend the higher dollar amount.

I will genuinely try to help, but you can’t post in one thread that you don’t see why anyone would need a top quality firearm and not expect to get at least a little shit for it when you post another thread asking for suggestions on a top quality firearm.

If I were to take your original post in this thread at face value and not in the context of your previous posts, I would tell you to buy a complete LMT upper for $550 if you want a carbine length, or shop around and try to find a mid-length Sabre Defense upper for perhaps slightly less.

In either case, plan on spending an additional $130 for a bolt/carrier group and at least another $20 for standard plastic handguards in the case of the LMT.

Rob was being funny!

I don’t mind the crap. I’ve taken so much crap in my life, I wear a toilette ring around my neck.

I don’t get the impression that a $550 upper is top quality. That’s just my spending limit and I’m ok with less than Cadillac parts. I just don’t want to buy a Yugo if my money will get me a Chevrolet.

I am appreciative of all the information everyone posts here.

Rob wasnt recomending this, he put the link there because of your response in the other thread.
To quote you
"You guys will have to forgive me, but I have to chuckle just a bit over the discussions regarding carbines that need to survive 500 round firefights and EOTW scenarios. It’s just not going to happen unless you plan on signing up soon.

Most of us would increase our survivability rate by purchasing a less expensive carbine and spending the savings on gasoline to take us to the fitness club. "

I find it strange that you would “chuckle” at this sites common theme for quality weapons and then ask for our recomendations. It seemed from your post that you that you were already “in the know”.

Put an Oly Arms upper on it!

Who needs chrome lining and IN SPEC chambers anyway?

Double post

Oh man! Not at all. That’s not the way I meant it at all.

I know very little about AR’s. Been a pistol shooter all my life and have no experience with rifles.

How about this…

G&R has a Stag upper with the extractor work for $525. Not a Cadillac, but not a Yugo either. Right?

ADS has a nice upper and we can put a LMT BCG in it for you. Stag uppers are good we well (afte we do a little work to their BCG).

Buy the best gear you can afford even if you have to wait a little bit to get it.

PhotomanM4 ,

Are you looking for a range gun, or a weapon? Once the difference is decided, its much easier to make an honest choice.

Grant at one time you mentioned getting something like this in a middy…anything come of it?

Buy the ADS first and Stag second. Also if Grant has a LMT upper in stock complete with BCG wont cost you much more than the Stag and is a first quality gun that will hold up to the issues you chuckled at.

Why the ADS over the Stag?
