I have two Ed Brown 1911’s and have tried Blade Tech and Blackhawk and they don’t fit. I went into a dealer today that sells many Ed Browns and ask him if he had any problems and he said “No”. Then we tried to find a holster that fit and the Blackhawks in his store (I’ve tried many hoping to find variation in product) , neither gun fit.
The Trigger guard is larger than standard 1911. He tried one of his Browns’ in stock, the same thing. You can jam them in a leather of course, but it seems ridiculous.
I called Ed Brown to see if they would work the trigger guard into spec. Said there would be significant cost. My guess is that Springfield, Wilson or Nighthawk would have made good on their guns.
I know some people have not had any issues, so they are not consistent. I have 5 other 1911’s and all will fit any of my holsters, interchangeable- ALL of them among holsters.
Key points to be aware of: before you purchase an Ed Brown, know the Trigger guard MAY cause you some issues finding a holster.
And their Customer Service MAY be hit and miss. Or miss and miss.
Lastly, they will make you pay shipping to return the gun if you have an issue, even if its their fault.
I couldn’t find a holster for an old King Cobra I have. There must not be a demand I guess. At any rate, I had a holster made by Luke Adams at Adams Holsters. The price was no different than any other holster order at a round $85 including shipping.
This order entailed a lot of measurement on my part along with some drawings but it worked out great. The holster fit is unbelievable and carries well. I suggest giving Luke a call and see what he can do. He will want measurements of the trigger guard area and some photos. I’m telling you right now, if Luke can take care of your needs.
Go to http://www.adamsholsters.com to get his phone number. Luke is a great guy and he’s built 3 holsters for me.
my Les Baer is nearly the same. If the holster has adjustment, i have to back them off significantly. leather seems to be OK, except for my Nossar holster (which acts very much like kydex).
It’s not a manufacturing defect, per se, but their design dims are oversized
I bought a Galco to give a run, and I am going to try and file down a Blackhawk serpa and see if I can make it work. At the risk of trashing a $45 holster. It doesn’t even look close when stuffing in the Blackhawk, but I am going to try anyway.
The trigger guard is not the only difference, and may in fact be only a minor difference. I think you’ll find the slide itself is a little wider than “standard” on the Ed Brown, which will account for tight holster fit. No big deal, just worth noting.
