and it has me re-evaluating the Breakfree CLP I’ve been using exclusively for God knows how long.
Normally I’ve got CLP floating around everywhere, but in the process of moving I seem to have misplaced it all. Luckily I had a bottle of Hoppe’s in the safe that came with a shotgun cleaning kit and this past weekend I used it on a new AR before the first range session. When I got back I noticed that the Hoppe’s was actually still wet and had a good coating after some 300 rounds, if this were CLP the BCG would’ve been just about dry by this time.
I also know that after lubing with CLP and storing the weapon upright, most of the CLP will runoff into the buffer tube. So I re-applied some Hoppe’s to the BCG and stored overnight upright. The next morning, the BCG was basically just as wet as when I lubed it ~12hrs earlier.
So all this has got me wondering what you guys are using and is it resistant to running/slinging off during firing?
In my experience CLP is marginal at best as a lube.
I have had excellent results with militec. I have seen some poor reviews of it, but in my experience it works and works well. I have put my rifles through some very high round count 3-gun practices and matches with nary a hiccup, and without cleaning.
Of course I’ve run clp on my army issued guns, was using militec for awhile, still have a bunch of it around the house, earlier this year starting using slip2000 ewl, id definitely recommend it to anyone, after firing a few hundred rounds the bcg is still wet and slick, pretty much stays where you put it.
Seriously, I’m liking this Frog Lube more and more. Easy, clean and doesn’t piss the wife off with shitty odors. An 8 oz paste is gonna last me years on several frequently fired guns.
I too have taken a liking to the frog lube. It looks dry but as soon as it heats up its wet. It has protected my 1911 great. I think I am ready to try it on a few more guns.
