so everyone is a shooter but?

I used to lift heavy, but know after some years, aches and pains, go more for med weight and more reps. I usually follow with a few miles on the treadmill or my prefered eliptical as it’s easier on my knees.

Same here but still lift a little heavy but take more recovery time. Just join a gym and get in a routine.
Just looked at the crossfit program . It does look like an excellent workout routine.

I jog regularly. I find that in addition to the exercise it relieves stress, helps me sleep (I have had insomnia issues since I was a teen) and generally makes me a happier, healthier person. Sometimes I go cycling, but I prefer jogging. When I’m looking for something less intense, I will go hiking or simply go for a nice, long walk.

I really need to start some sort of weight training program to help with my skinny little arms, though.

Derek

1.5 hours a day in the gym, 5 days a week.

…and I’m not doing another minute more.

That’s funny. When I wasn’t in a fitness routine I couldn’t sleep either. As long as I am I sleep just fine.

i mountain bike a lot.
i also ride a fair amount of road.

my job demands heavy lifting and occasionally climbing up on stuff.

i’m in decent shape. being 25 years old helps too.

Let me see if this attachment will work.

No luck. too big. I have this great pic of some morbidly obese idiot from TOS! I’ll have to get it hosted later.

ouch…
i think i’d be delighted to survive that.

2x a week, 2 - 3 hr mountain bike ride
weekend, 4+ hr ride

not at a relaxed pace, pushing hard, minimal stops

racing and road riding on top of that

swim every day, upper body weight training 6x per week. Used to bike and run alot but knees are trash. probably would slack off if I had to leave home to work out. another year or so and my youngest will out bench me and if the eyes keep going he may own me on the handgun course. Is it 5 yet, I need a beer.

An admirable test, but one which will destroy your joints if done very often. Once you crawl up over 30 and continue doing PT like that, you will eventually pay the price. There are better ways to test upper/lower body strength/endurance and cardio-vascular conditioning without tearing up one’s body as much.

I feel you pain bro. I ETS’d from Active Service March 1988 and went Inactive in August 1996. I recently joined an Army Reserve unit and am having one heck of a time getting back into shape (mostly for medical reasons). I’m starting to doubt if I can ever get back to the fraction of my physical fitness when I was forced to run 4-miles a day!! :frowning:

No kidding! This is the main reason why I am trying like hell to get myself back into it. Still I am finding there’s a huge difference between 30 something and being a teenager.

On a side note, to those that have quit smoking after having smoked for 10+ years, how did it go for you? Did you gain a lot of weight? I have put on about 10 pounds, which I can live with, but my main concern is the shit I hack up out of my lungs everyday. It is straight lung butter, and it is nasty. I haven’t had a smoke in a year now and I still hack up crap. I can say that I have not gotten ill nearly as much as when I smoked and my general level of health has gotten better.

Hey man, congratulations on quitting smoking. That’s a big deal!

Exercise alone will not generate the fat loss that healthy eating can. Combining healthy eating and exercising is a double wammy. I always suggest to people to get the eating part in check way before they start a workout routine.

Check out the principles found in the “zone” diet. Not only does it promote fat burning it is the healthiest way to eat out there. The HIGH this LOW that stuff is dangerous.

Again great job on stopping smoking.

I tend to eat pretty healthy anyways, I eat a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables with fresh unprocessed meats…well I lie. After being without it for 2 years in Iraq I cannot live again without bacon, but other than that I eat pretty well. Most everything I buy comes from the “outer ring” at the grocery store. Still I will check out this diet you speak of.

Great to hear. The idea is more proportioning and frequency of meals than substance of said meals. Although substance is not to be ignored.

Also look up whats called the french paradox in relation to eating. They eat what most diets would consider garbage yet have the lowest rate of heart disease and obesity. The idea is they eat small quantities periodically throughout the day. This truth throws most diets right out the window in terms of content control only. Good luck. PM me if you have any questions but its pretty straight forward.

Ya, once you’re there–but how many klicks did you have to hump that 14-pound rifle, and how many hundreds of yards did you have to stalk through the weeds, to get to your FFP? And, how many long hot/freezing/rainy days did you spend on the range to learn how to hit with your precision rifle? :stuck_out_tongue: I know, you already know that. One of my shooting buddies instructs at the sniper school at Bragg and I’ve heard his wife ask, how hard can all that be? He said, hard enough for a lot of high-speed young men to need IV rehydration after a stalk.

Absolutely! I combine Crossfit with MMA. It works out well. I feel like I can do anything.

The last line is why I do it. Remember when you were a kid and nothing phased you? Climbing on monkey bars, hanging upside down out of tree, jumping out of a tree etc etc etc. Crossfit gave me that feeling back. It was fear due to me being out of shape that took that away. Not that I’m climbing children s monkey bars now but you get the idea. I no longer fear that I am physical inadequate to complete a task. It is a much a mental program as physical. 10 mile run? Ain’t nothing. 12 hours of sod work to help my neighbor? easy. Sprint as hard as I can for 600m? HA! give me more.

Crossfit is addictive. Ain’t easy but man its more than worth it. It gave me my life back.

i used to spend 2 hours a day in the gym but lately my workout has consisted of 20 ounce curls at least 12 sets

I jog seven miles every other day on country roads. So lots of hills.
