If it were not for media talking heads reporting on it I would have never known. My life went along as usual.
IIRC, the last time there was a shutdown the media hysterically chirped “default” on government debt. Curiously, I never heard that word mentioned this time around. Perhaps a different narrative was thought better. yawn…
As a federal contractor, I noticed. Nothing shut down for me, but work in general became more of a PITA. With shuffling of .gov staff and lines of communication becoming more complicated.
Considering I was working on an air traffic control tower, and the project was 100% funded, kept the disruption to a minimum.
Done with that job now, and I am bailing on federal contracting entirely. I’m sick of all the BS, including these stupid “shutdown showdowns”.
ETA: Sucks for the company though. The folks that need to authorize payment are furloughed.
I think if you’re in a small to medium sized City outside of (30 or more miles) an urban zone, you’re not going to be effected.
As long as the infrastructure holds you’re good to go, right?
The neat thing about this part of Texas is that although there are a lot of Towns dying out, they’ve managed to keep basic services running for decades after it was profitable.
When they were doing well they were ran very well and they’re still hanging in there.
I don’t think it’s intenet was to make insurance affordable, he wanted to take over Healthcare or the Insurance Industry, he set up a 'Knights Cross" where he would get one or the other.
Some people went behind the curtain and prevented the entire collapse, but right now Trumps about to kick the third leg out from under the ACA Stool.
The ACA has to go to free up the Free Market to allow insurance rates to go back to what should be “Normal”.
Money never stopped being taken out of my paycheck = the government was never really shut down… if only it really would have been for real.
The Obamacare subsidies canard was an afterthought after the Dems realized they were losing the PR battle (even with their media allies covering for them) and tried to change the narrative just like they’re trying to do now with the BS Epstein “files”. The ACA passed without a single GOP vote and it’s been a complete and utter failure for the American people even as it’s achieved most of what it’s designers hoped for, which was destroying our faith in our healthcare and health insurance industries, and it would have led to a complete takeover of the medical and insurance industries with a single-payor Federal Healthcare entitlement had the GOP not been able to ditch the mandate. As it is, the Covid “temporary” subsidies were added by the Democrat congress and Biden in order to cover up the massive cost increases of the ACA mandated insurance coverages and regulatory costs. Now that they are expiring, costs aren’t going up, the government is just not paying to offset the cost of the democrat’s mess and (a small subset of) people are finding out what socialized medicine really costs.
