Sling QD Mount Position On 10.5 inch Upper

I have a 10.5 inch Upper. I have a NSR Keymod QD Mount to attach onto the rail for a sling.
I’ll run a Blue Force Gear or Savvy Sniper Sling.
Should I place the mount toward the barrel or toward stock on the rail.
I want to do this once and never have to worry about changes.

All personal preference and depends how you have the front end set up, i.e. light.

I prefer to have my sling attachments as forward as possible as I find it promotes better muzzle control on the gun when slung, especially in a rear position. That said, I don’t run a tape switch/VFG on WML so they are mounted on the left side or 12 o’clock and having a QD Mount too far forward doesn’t work on the shorties - not enough room. The exception is the Proctor sling which mounts with paracord and provides more room flexibility I’ve found.

My experiences, at least. You’ll have to play around. Good luck.

Like pomyc said… Personal preference and availible real estate. I run the front close to the barrel nut on the 10:30 slot and rear under the front of the collapsible stock. To each his own…

Yep. Just like how you carry your CCW probably isn’t that same as the guy standing next to you. It’s all you.

As others have said, it’s all you. Best way to know is to train with it one way for a while, then the other, see what works best for your intended mission with the rig.

I like my front sling attachments as far forward as possible, on the side, 9 o’clockish position.

Agreed, it’s all preference.

I like my front sling attachments as far back as possible. On the side. 9o clockish position.

Time for a poll.

Let’s conspire to get the questions right -

Which Forward Sling Attachment Point do you use:

Left handed shooters 9 o’clock equals 3 o’clock for a lefty.

  1. 9 o’clock as far forward on the rail as possible;

  2. 6 o’clock as far foward on the rail as possible;

  3. 9 o’clock as far back on the rail as possible;

  4. 9 o’clock intermediate on the rail

  5. 6 o’clock intermediate on the rail

  6. 3 o’clock on rifles

Did I leave anything out?

3 - on every rifle.

Okay, added to list.

Did I get that right?

4 for me.

I think he was answering the poll, as in: 3) 9 o’clock as far back on the rail as possible;

1 for me.

yes…

Right handed and use 9 o’clock at the muzzle end of the rail. When you attach closer to to the receiver end the muzzle end doesn’t stay snug to the body when slung.

Thank You for that little bit of info.

Proctor sling gets:

  1. 9 o’clock as far forward on the rail as possible;

QD I go intermediate, but using one of the offset female QD mounts on the top rail so somewhere around 10:30?

This is important, but how do you manipulate your light with the sling in the way?

started the poll.

The sling doesn’t interfere at all with the WML
