Certainly have a purpose if one is doing CQB or riding in vehicles, but they suck when running with equipment.
Do you not hold on to your rifle when you run?
From now on I will use a one hand pistol hold when I run. :o
I don’t know where all the SP slings go, but you don’t see (m)any in practical application.
My modified Condor Cobra SP works well. Switching from dominant to non-dominant hands and transitions are a breeze. If i do run, I do hold onto the weapon though ![]()

I think there are several real world operators on this forum that would disagree with you on that point. But lets see if any of them chime in.
I for one am looking into a single point at the moment because all the other slings I have tried to date have been a pain in the ass. When I get it I will update regarding if I like it, but I’m not an industry professional, just an avid shooter.
Any one with real world experience out there want to chime in?
seems like it would be hard(er) to move with one imo.
99% of the time when you are wearing a rifle real time, you are doing something else other than shooting. Advanced two-points (like the VTAC or VCAS) allow you to work with your hands, tackle obstacles (like climbing a fence or whatever) with the use of both hands much easier than a single-point sling.
If all you’re going to do is use a sling during rifle classes or in indoor CQB environments, by all means, a single-point will do you fine. If you plan to be involved with any other aspect of wearing a rifle but not shooting, an advanced two-point is hard to beat.
I usually ask people to, ‘try and climb a fence/wall utilizing both hands with a single-point compared to an advanced two-point’ and the difference between the two becomes very clear.
I am currently using a Vickers Padded Combat sling on my SBR. Today in the class I was in we had to shoot dominant and support side. I was able to extend the sling, run it under my railto the right side and sling up while still maintaining control.
The more I am using the Vickers sling, the more I like it. I am still a little undecided about my Magpul sling.
My padded VCAS came in handy in today’s class. During downtime, just snug it down to keep it under control. Half the convenience of the padding is it’s less abrasive on your neck. The one guy running a single point kept getting a mag to the crotch when trying to run.
When I was in Afghanistan, I used a modified SP directly attached to my IOTV with Female clip on my stock and a male on my IOTV shoulder. worked very well, sat nicely to my side when i needed my hands. while I was in the truck, I would just disconnect it and manipulate it without the weapon being stuck like glue. now, when I was chilling on the FOB, I had ghetto rigged a 2pt sling that I always kept in my calf pocket, it clipped onto the stock Female clip, and I had used 550 cord to keep another small female clip on the foreguard. throw that sling on, and I could walk around with that bad boy slung over my back comfortably.
that’s just what I used back then. gotta make up some new crazy stuff now that I have a whole new kind of role to fill.
:big_boss:
Currently I use a magpul MS2 sling and it works great for switching from 1 Pt to 2 Pt. The only gripe I have about it is the fact that its not wider where it sits on your neck. Kinda digs in after a while. Have seen some modified slings combining the VTac padded sling and the Magpul MS2 on here and think that’s a great Idea.
