Sights

Hi all. This is my first post, so I hope I get it right. I just bought a new Bushmaster “Patrolman” and I want to add a few assessories, not a lot because everything I look at is so expensive especially optical sights. I know I want to put on optical sights (Eotech, Burris) as my eyes are not what they used to be and iron sights are harder to use for those longer shots. What sights do you guys recommend to someone who does not want to pay a fortune yet wants to have a quality optical sight. Thanks

Not sure what exactly a fortune means to you but maybe this:

As long as you’re not planning on using night vision or exiting from a submarine it should get the job done nicely.

Welcome to the forums. Definitely check out some of the sticky threads. You might want to double check the staking on your gas key. Refer to this thread

EDIT:
I also just saw these in the member sales area so you may want to keep your eyes open there for a deal

Hope this helps some. I just re-read your post and now I’m beginning to second guess some of my suggestions. Are you looking for a red dot or are you wanting glass with some magnification???

Burris AR-332 if you’re on a budget. you get a decent quality red dot with 3x magnification for $299.http://www.burrisoptics.com/ar332.html for about $115.00 more you can get an Eotech, but if your eyes are not the best i would go for something with some magnification to it.

I appreciate the info. What am I looking for in checking the staking on the gas key. I am alittle new to the Ar-15. The last time I really had anything to do with one was with an M-16 in indian country. I am looking for a sight with some magnification. Once again thanks for taking to time to respond. I like the Burris AR-332 but I can’t find one in stock. Maybe you know of a place that has them in stock.

No worries. I was a new not long ago. You’re definitely in the right spot for some quality info. As for the staking. Take a look at the photos below (Credit to gotm4, I snatched these pics from his thread linked above).

Good

Not as good

NOT GOOD

You want to make sure there is enough metal pushed into the screws to keep them from rotating and or backing out. If it doesn’t look like there is on yours look back through the thread I linked. You would want to find someone with (or buy) a MOACKS or you could restake it with a spring loaded punch. I bring this up because a couple of weeks ago was shooting with a guy whose bushmaster went down and sure enough it was the carrier key that had come loose.

I personally don’t have any experience ordering from them but it looks like these guys have them with free shipping.

Thanks for that info. I rechecked mine and found that there were marks on both screws but only one had enough metal moved over to stop it from turning. I will get mine to the gunsmith. Thanks again. Dennis

I checked their site out and I will call to see if they have one in stock. Thanks

I just checked them out and the sight will not be available until late Sept. or October. Rats

That sucks. Good luck on your search. Enjoy you’re new rifle and don’t forget to post up some pics:)
