Sig 556 to 551'ish conversion

Recently picked up a slightly used 556ER. I immediately did the following:

  • Swapped out the lower for a Swiss lower
  • Swapped the too-tall Sig Sauer emergency sights for Swiss lower-profile flip-up emergency sights
  • Added SWR/Gemtech bi-lock to use my SWR Specwar 2 suppressor
  • Swapped out the LaRue standard height mount for a LaRue RAS2 mount








Next, I picked up a new SIG 551 SWAT black handguard and swapped all the furniture out for black SWAT furniture.

It will eventually go to the gunsmith to have a steel Swiss-spec Picatinney rail welded in place (like the original Swiss guns) and then get refinished in SIG/SwissArms gray.

That is entirely Bad Ass! I’ve always been a huge fan of the 55X series of rifles. I’ve held off buying a 556, hoping Sig would build a more traditional rifle. Looks like they have one on the way, and I may have to pick it up.
