Should I get the E4 16" rail model or wait for the E4 optics gun which the say they might not get any more of? The optics gun is $50 more but getting the rail and upgrading to the factory optic is $300 more. Thoughts?
I would highly recommend the rail so that you can put the optic of your choice on it.
The MSAR’s optic is a copy of a 30 year old design. The rail gives you options that they just didn’t have in 1977.
I think I’ll order a rail version tomorrow. What’s the best kind of optic for this platform? I’m thinking maybe an M3 Fakepoint or T1 fakepoint…I already have an Eotech XPS on my 6920.

I had to make the same decision a couple of weeks ago. I went with the optic gun for the $50. When I actually handled the gun I was surprised at how nice the optic was. I also wanted to be able to shoot it and see if I liked it etc and not have to buy yet another red dot etc. I figured for $50 I can always put a rail on it and sell it to pay for a rail. The 12" rail which is what I really want (steps down and gives you rail above the barrel, perfect for an X300 surefire) is being redesigned and built for the E4 and will be available in a few months I would guess. So since that is the rail I really would want I decided to do the optic for now.

I ordered a rail model E4 today, with 16" bbl and black stock. I keep getting the feeling I should have held out for an optic.
How much is the factory optic from other sources, something under the $300 quoted by Ratworx?
the cheapest I would go is vortex.
I mean the original factory optic, spacegun looking scope. I’d like the original look to the rifle eventually.

As far as an optic goes, I ran the STG-556 that MSAR loaned me in last year’s Vickers M4 Staff class with an Aimpoint T-1 that I took off of my Arsenal SLR-106FR, and it was a great paring.
