What is the bare minimum for a shot timer that one would need? I want a random start, par time, and any other features that will be “required”. The CED 7000 appears to be the best I have found with limited knowledge. Any others?
I use a PACT III Club timer for my training programs and its a very simple, durable timer with more functions than I really need.
Pricing is right. I got it from Brownell’s but lots of others sell it.

I am also looking for a shot timer/clock to use at the range, and to take with me to USPSA matches. How does the PACT timer compare to other brands out there, for example the Pocket Pro.
I have since grabbed a PACT Club III. No regrets. The other timers suggested in other threads seemed to have issues, although minimal. I decided to look at some class threads and noticed one timer was used by the guys that do this everyday, it was the PACT.
I’m using SUREFIREs iPhone app for now its free and will work for dryfire also. I plan on getting the CED 8000 someday when I really need it.
The iPhone/iPad app is really very good. Exceptional, for the price (free). There’s a Blackberry version too.

I’ve been using a pocket pro shot timer for the past 3 years. It’s worked well and does everything that I need it to. Buying a shot timer was the best thing I’ve done to “improve” my shooting. Just make sure it has a par time and random start function so that you can use it to help you dryfire.

I got the CED7000 and took it out yesterday. The buttons felt a little cheap, but it worked great, very loud and easy to setup.
The original “Pocket Pro” is the one I see used the most at matches, and I have never been to a USPSA Level 2 & up match that did not use the original Pocket Pro.
I have a Pocket Pro II. I like it well enough other than on occasion the screen fritzes out, and you have to remove & reinsert the battery to “fix” it. It only ever happens on start-up though. I use if dry fire and live fire practice a lot, and also have used it as an RO at the local matches for the last 3 years with no issues.
The CED 7000 have a nice piercing “beep”, rather than the “buzz” of the Pocket Pro’s. I don’t care for the battery setup on the CED.
I had an old Pact previously (about the size of a brick). I sold it and bought the CED which I regretted. I now use the Pact Club Timer III. Love it except for the goofy metal clip.

Another vote for the PACT Club III. I’m having an issue with the sensitivity in an indoor range, but other than that, it’s been working pretty good.
I had to turn my sensitivity down a hair, but it works just fine now.
I find with my PACT III it will not pick up my suppressor. How can I adjust the sensitivity.
There is a pot behind the battery, it must be turned clockwise using a small phillips screwdriver.
On that note, I have not been able to use my timer without adjusting it once per range session. Not sure what the deal is, but it is certainly a very finicky adjustment.
