He reloads the black powder rounds himself also cast the massive lead rounds for it. I shot it at 300 yards and missed a 4×4 red duct tape cross like the red cross emblem bullsye at 300 yards by 2 inches. Really accurate for such an old school rifle. I bet it was a buffalo killing machine in its time.
When you hit the boom switch you knew it…lol probably a once in a lifetime thing to do.

I have yet to shoot the 45/90, 45/100 or the 45/110, guess I am hanging out with the wrong crowd.
For the past 15 Years I have been shooting at a private range, and that’s something you miss is meeting shooters and getting the chance to shoot there weapons.
The range i go to is members only exept a few hours 2 days a week,very private , out in the middle of nowhere.A nice place to hide.lol i just got lucky it was my first black powder metallic cartridge round.
Appears to be a very time consuming deal swabbing after every shot and dropping your emptys into soapy water to help with the corrosion factor of black powder.
The accuracy was amazing it was i believe a sharps Shiloh rifle. I can easly see the attraction.
In 1976 I bought a Ruger No.3 carbine in 45-70 and shortly thereafter a reloading “buddy” at work gave me three Hornady .458 500 grain bullets below. I loaded them up to near maximum and fired two rounds out of my 5 1/2 pound carbine and gave myself two bloody noses. The first was fired from the bench and I saw stars and blood gushed from my nose that was to close to the top of my thumb. After I recovered and packing my nose with cigarette filters to stop the bleeding I decided to fire the second round standing up. The second round and fierce recoil even standing and leaning forward dislodged the cigarette filters up my nose and the blood starting pouring out again.
I kept the third bullet below to remind me to never be that dumb again and forget about Newtons Third Law.
I can only imagine a round like this with modern propellants… The black powder really wasnt bad altho dont get me wrong it has a good thump. What was amazing to me was the accuracy of it. Hitting a man size target at 300+ yards would be as easy as any modern rifle. Missing a 4 inch target basically at 300 with iron sights by 2 inches the first time i shot it was remarkable especially since i was trying to relax thinking i
to was fixing to get plowed in the face by the sights…lol
I dont know what an old Shiloh sharps cost,iam sure it was very expensive it had presentation grade wood etc. An absolute gorgeous rifle. Hopefully i will see him again i would be interested in the speed of the round etc,iam sure it hits like dropping a dump truck on the target. Between the rain here in austin and a lovely bout with the flu filling my ears with fluid causing my vertigo to act up and making me feel so dizzy i feel like iam gona pass out all the time its been tough to get to the range.
Since my range is 80 miles round trip i have to be sure iam feeling up to snuff before i go,last time i went i spent more time BS with the guys out there than shooting. At least i didnt have to clean guns when i got home.lol
