Recent Vicker’s Basic Pistol 1 day covered it, he stated it’s “pretty fucking important”. ![]()
I like the Iraqi’s fortitude. He didn’t cut and run to try to save his own skin, but instead did his job while attempting to ensure his own survival.
That happened in Pigeon Forge, TN. Here’s a link to the video: TruTV Bad Idea Butch
tracker722 here is familiar with the incident. Here’s his quote from this thread: m4carbine.net
The eight shots that hit their target were all while on the move, (backwards), and were all in approx. a four inch group. The only shot to miss was because the subject fell.
Weapon used by Off. Brown was a Glock 21 loaded with Federal Hydroshoks.
Ironic in that it shows that shooting while moving backwards can work?
Most instructors I’ve attended say that while not preferable it’s pretty important to learn/practice.
He likely intended for his first shot to go into the dirt as a “Warning shot”. Im not sure if that is SOP for the Iraqi police, but it likely is.
The video quality isn’t the best by any stretch to be able to analyze where the rest of his rounds were impacting. To me it looks like several of them were striking the front and side vehicle glass, but again its too hard to be able to say with any certainty where they impacted.
It almost looks like the guy rehearsed that particular movement drill many, many times. I dont recall seeing him look where he was going one single time. That was a full-out backward sprint to an acceptable form of cover without a single look as to where he was going.
Really? The only person I can think of off the top of my head that doesn’t teach shooting on the move to the rear is Kyle Lamb. Who else doesn’t teach it?
thanks! I was looking for that footage and couldn’t find it anywhere
Roger. I was curious if he did something to become famous before the posted vid.
I’m guessing that if the guard was moving any slower, he would have gotten roasted. He chose wisely.
I’m quite pleased that the good guy is alive, and the bad guy is eating a ham sammich in Hell.
Good point about the CP. A lot of times the insurgents rig these SVBIED’s with a secondary means of detonating the explosives so that in the event that the driver is killed it will automatically detonate. That’s another possibility.
In other words, he accomplished his mission and lived to tell the tale!
So I say good job!
He might be alive, but I wonder if he is OK being that close to the blast.
more than likely his ears are still ringing, and at the very least he’s got some metal in him.
I’ve never seen or heard of an IP using warning shots, certainly not in Mosul back in the day. The honest ones are usually pretty ruthless. I’ve always thought being an honest cop/IA in Iraq has to be about one of the toughest jobs around. Man, he was really moving. I’d have probably fallen on my ass.
I think a lot of instructors may shy away from teaching moving backwards while shooting due to safety concerns. I don’t know that for a fact, that’s my best guess. I’ve actually seen a guy do it and stitch the roof of a warehouse as he was going ass over end. There was a lot of debris and it was a pretty unknown area though. It was 5 years ago and of course we still give him shit about it ![]()
