Sharp edges on feed ramps?

Newbie here.

First, this is a great forum. I’ve already learned a ton. Now, if someone can teach me how to afford ammo, I’m all set!

I chambered a round using the slide release button from a new magazines into a never-fired chamber on the S&W M&P15A. After I drop the magazine and eject the round, I noticed by feel that the bullet has been scored length wise. The scratch is pretty much the length of the bullet and a little onto the case of the round. I ran a q-tip across the ramps and nothing grabbed onto anything.

Would y’all say this is normal or should I be checking something? tia!

Could there be a bur on the lip of the magazine?

This is normal for a new barrel.
The edges of the locking lugs on the extension are sharp.
Several hundred rounds sliding over them will smooth that sharp edge.

If it causes feeding trouble, take a dremel and just break the sharp edges.

I just tried stripping a round manually, no scratches. Then I tried chambering a round and ejecting it. Then it was scratched, enough to feel with your finger nail. I looked at the feed ramps under a little magnification and I’m seeing some copper on the forward edges of the ramp.

Could it be with zero rounds through it, it’s just new?

Thank you!
