I am a bit out of date on current suppressors. I am looking to buy another, and these are the features I want, in order of preference:
Rated for at least 11.5" barrels (10.5" preferred)
Rated full auto
Light weight
Direct Thread
User serviceable
Removable endcap
The Gemtech Trek-T covers most, but I’m curious as to what else I should be looking at, and I haven’t paid very close attention to the suppressor market over the last few years. Thanks.
Since you’re asking for 5.56 full auto rated and down to 10.5", I’m not sure I’d go with a Ti can. If you absolutely have to have light weight, I’d look at the Dead Air 7.62 Sandman-Ti. It’s the only Ti can I’m aware of with a full Stellite baffle stack.
If dB reduction isn’t a top priority, I’d consider going with one of the Surefire or KAC micro cans. Ti cans have their place, but shooting a lot of 5.56 out of a short barrel at a high rate of fire, isn’t one of them.
I have a SF SOCOM 762 Mini already. Looking to save some weight and just direct thread a lighter can onto my SBR. I don’t shoot it full auto often, and when I do it’s a few bursts of less than a magazine worth just to have a little fun. Given that info, is TI still a no go? I’m willing to go up to a 12.5" barrel if it will make an appreciable difference.
Basically, I want the lightest setup I can for a gun that will be shot suppressed 100% of the time. I understand suppressors are wear items, so if I should be looking at a certain brand because they can be rebuilt easier/cheaper, that’s fine too.

User serviceable - NO, I can’t think of any reputable companies that have a 5.56mm model that comes apart for cleaning.
Removable endcap - NO, I think only SilencerCo does that at this time.
The Thunder Beast 223P-2 will also meet most of your requirements but isn’t specifically machine gun rated (will handle short burst though), no removable end cap and doesn’t come apart.
I will preface this by saying that I have a low round count on the below setup.
The main problem with titanium and semi/full auto is that titanium loses its “durability,” if you will, as its temp rises. I have a Trek-T on a 11.5 DD barrel and sparks come out the front after the first mag at a reasonably slow rate of fire. Those are small pieces of the can. Don’t have sparks from the steel Surefire can. It also has significantly more muzzle flash as it heats up. It also seems to get louder, but that may just be me. Its totally unscientific but i can stand behind the shooter without earpro when using the surefire, not so with the trek. Also want to say that I/m totally not a surefire fanboy. this one is probably my last for a while for no other reason than i want to try some sico cans next.
Don’t get me wrong, titanium certainly has its place. Its crazy light and with the Trek you lose the weight of the mount too. You will spoil yourself with how light it is. I wouldn’t count on the can lasting very long with much if any sustained fire. If cans were 1/2 the price and bought in store without the wait i would have all titanium cans just for the weight. The cost plus stamp plus wait means i want them to last and that means steel/alloys on semi rifles for me.
That is troubling to hear.
My understanding is that with Titanium cans, it’s just the outer tube that’s Titanium, while the baffles are stellite/inconel/steel baffles. Wouldn’t the baffles be taking the brunt of the blast, while the tube just holds things in place?
Are you sure the sparks are parts of the can, or is it muzzle flash from the ammo?
Im fairly sure it’s part of the can. Maybe others could chime in with their experiences. Initially I was thinking that it was just part of the muzzle flash, then started reading about titanium cans and high temps and now believe that it is erosion from the can. This is mostly because it gets worse as the can gets hot all while using the same ammo. To be honest I don’t rember what the internals of the can are made of. At little more than 10 oz there can’t be much steel in there. Perhaps gemtec could provide some info there. It won’t be for at least a few weeks but I can try to take some night shooting videos of the ti can vs the steel can and see. I do notice erosion on the blast baffle after only a few hundred rounds. This is my first and most used can so I don’t have a comparrison yet and don’t know if this is normal or not. Don’t want to talk you out of anything. Have you tried to contact gemtec or any other manufacturer and see what their honest opinion is? Just because it is “full auto rated” dosent meen that it’s “full auto recommended” if you know what I mean. Also, have you thought about how you plan to keep the threaded can onto the barrel?
10 oz is mighty light. To me, that sounds like even the baffles are Ti, which I have never heard of.
In that case, it might be the baffles that are sparking, rather than the tube.
Gemtech lists the build materials as Ti and inconel. My suspicion is that the blast baffle is the only inconel part but i could be wrong. They list the weight as 10.3oz. Wherever the sparks come from, baffles or tube, eventually it will erode beyond being useful. Only Gemtech can tell you if this would be a warrantee claim or “normal” wear and tear, although im guessing the latter. I’m fairly certain that the sparking gets worse as the can gets hotter which would make sense given the properties of titanium.
Do a quick search into suppressors used for precision shooting and you will find all Ti baffles & tubes. Here are a few:

I have an all Ti suppressor that states it is designed for 7.62 bolt action and semi-auto rifles. 99% of the rounds are 300BLK subs, so I am not worried about beating up the can. And I have a steel 2 port brake to act as the blast baffle as extra insurance, but not really needed with 8"+ 300BLK barrels.
Things I have read on the net, up to you to verify:
1 mag dump of 5.56 through all Titanium suppressors will heat them up to, but not over, the threshold for increased erosion
Ti cans will spark once they are heated up, and that is the blast baffle wearing away
