I was doing a quick clean on my 20", and noticed the adjustment drum on my Troy BUIS was raised, and loose. The screw was backing out. I tighten the whole thing up a bit, but I’m thinking the thing needs more attention. Does this require some blue Locktite? Where? Is there something I need to know before I remove the screw if it did need Locktite internally?
Just to be sure, are you talking about the little allen screw that holds the windage drum? I think purple loctite would be more appropriate, but blue will work.
Yeah that’s it. I just don’t know where to put the Locktite…on the end of the screw? If I have to pull the screw all the way out, am I going to get a surprise, like some little unseen part sproonging across the room? Anyway, if I don’t get an answer here I’ll try and call Troy Monday.
Put one drop (maybe even a little less) right on the threads in the middle of the screw. It won’t shoot at you, I can’t remember if there is a ball detent in there or not but they are not under tons of tension (like a pivot pin detent). Blue is fine.
Pull the screw out and take a piece of tape and it will hold everything together while you apply some Loctite to the screw. Then screw it back in.
