You might end up waiting a bit longer. My 17S came with a busted hinge from the factory (or maybe Fedex) in May of last year. FNH wanted me to ship the rifle in but after some arguing with the parts lady over the phone she agreed to just order a new stock assembly that was supposed to be back in stock the next month. The next time I called they said they would not be in until July. In July they said they had no idea when they would get them. I just kind of forgot about it and was surprised when a new stock just showed up in the mail in late November.
I’m happy with the rifle and really appreciate that FNH took care of it, especially without me shipping the rifle back, but it’s a bit frustrating when the parts department has so little information about parts availability. I would have been seriously pissed though if they had the rifle that whole time.
I’ve shot one a fair bit. And every time I’m shooting and moving that f@$#ing ch gets my thumb. And my buddy who owns it tells me not to mess with the stock because he’s afraid it will break. A $10 piece of metal would fix this “top of its class” rifles stock problem. A $2k rifle “used by socom” shouldn’t have a stock that breaks and fn should have come up with a solution by now. They make great products and I don’t understand why they’ve let this problem persist.
A proper metal stock hinge and a non reciprocating ch and the scar would have been the ultimate weapons system. Too bad fn dropped the ball.
reciprocating ch was part of the SOCOM’s requirement. The plastic stock hinge was probably to save weight - to meet the weight requirement. However it doesn’t seem like an aluminum stock hinge would even add that much weight to begin with.
I wonder if we’ll see a big update to the SCAR series from FN soon, but then again I guess they would only do that if end users asked for it.
Serious… weight to met the spec sheet is what it appears to me… but I do not work for FN so… no way I can 100% sure…
Silent… She only shot the standard modified SCAR 17 in 7.62x51… supermodel with big tits… what I’m gonna say no???
the UBCG guns were only shown to a few people and shot by fewer… It does so much on that platform… my 300blk recoils like an airsoft gun…but I can say no more…
I hope you understand… I am trying to fundamentally shift things with that platform… and in short order… I am not sure if the world is going to keep it together long enough for the USA to select a new rifle/ caliber etc … my enhancements are ready to go now…
That’s a pretty small issue for such a kick butt platform but still annoying.
Been rolling around the idea of putting an M4 stock adapter on it anyway since I started swapping all of my civvie ARs over to those dandy BCM Gunfighter stocks. I have 4 LMT stocks just laying around collecting dust and one of them just happens to be the right color to match my black SCAR 17S.
HANDL wants waaaaaay too much money for that hinge to make me even remotely interested in keeping that funky looking plastic tuna stock when I can get a complete adjustable height VLTOR M4 adapter for $130…

Silent- Anyone at BF Vegas had an opportunity to see what we are doing. If you had the right credentials I would take it apart and show how it works, then let you shoot it. What do you expect? you want me to post up the .cad files? You want me to just show everyone what I’ve spent 3 years working for free? I know you need rewarded for coming all this way from Fnfourms.

Are you one drugs or something? I was responding to seeing the hinges on rifles like mine jacked up not some paranoid dong measuring contest you have with some FNF peeps. I don’t know you from Adam but if you’re the guy selling those aluminum stock hinges on the HANDL page you might actually sell more than a handful of them if they didn’t cost as much as everyone else’s whole buttstock assembly…
Sadly enough this is the reason I’ve never had an interest in one… great rifles too. I worked with a foreign entity from 2010-2012 and they actually tested 16s to replace their aging system. They had photos and several of them cracking severely, enough for them to go with the HK.
No, I don’t want your .cad files. I’ve already seen what that BCG looks like. A screw holding a tungsten weight in? Seriously? Doesn’t look like it’s ready to go now since there is video of it failing to lock to the rear on the final round.
As for who was able to shoot a scar with that modified BCG, by the looks of it on Instagram there were no credentials needed. Pretty interesting stuff on those two peoples Instagram accounts though!
In that configuration… I’d rather get a MR762. I like the “bump” on the SCAR and they shoot nicely but the fact remains they don’t want to address this problem is the reason why I’d look elsewhere. It’s possible FN sees that as a replaceable component?
The SCAR is a completely different class of rifle, it’s light, well balanced, has a CHF chrome lined barrel and it hasn’t had a single malfunction in the 4 cases of ammo though it so far and it will consistently hold under 1.5 MOA with Fiocchi Exacta 168gr even if I have been banging away on close range steel for several mags before going prone to take a well aimed shot.
Besides I already have a very accurate 10lb 7.62 AR with a 5R barrel and it sure as hell didn’t cost $3500 to build and it takes plain old $18 Pmags…
HK really blew it with that MR556 and MR762 crapola. If they had just given us semi versions of the 416/417 they couldn’t make enough of them to keep up with demand and civilian SCARs would be an also ran.
Well it’s actually not a different class of rifle but I understand your point. Both use proprietary mags, both are piston driven, and both are used in the same capacity by their respective militaries. HK did what they could do with the restrictions that are imposed on by both governments and still made damned good rifles. The 17 is lighter and no qualms about that but you can’t tell me they “blew” it. I do have a couple MR556s, one of which is a SBR but my .308 is a LMT.
We can go back and forth about CL vs Non CL but the fact is there are few manufactures that produce such high end equipment that don’t remedy known issues. There’s no way in this universe where FN can justify not “fixing” the issue on a 2800.00 rifle. Depending on the aftermarket to fix something that shouldn’t break in the first place is a piss poor practice.
No that dream is real, I’ve had it many times and looked it up. From what I read it means you are unsure of your training, or lack thereof. Used to freak me out bad, as I was in that business.
To me it goes even further than that. Not only do they not fix the issue, but they expect me to ship the entire rifle and on my coin. Couple that with the problem of questionable turnaround and it becomes quite the cluster f**k. I want to like FN, I really do, but they are making it hard on me. On a side note, I love the SCAR 17 as a platform. It could use some more refinement sure but it is one fine weapon. It seems the stock in general is where all the flaws arise. It’s sad, especially considering it’s polymer and FN could fix and/or replace defective stocks like magpul did their Glock Mags. To act like I have to send my entire rifle in so they can “diagnose the problem” is downright unacceptable.
