Sad they quit making these mags

I bought the last two of the vickers duty wc mags from brownells. I’ve used them since they came out and really liked them. It’s a bummer they spilt the sheets and won’t be making these anymore. They were really expensive but I liked them and had great luck with them.

Wilson stopped selling all Vickers product. The drama was discussed adnauseum several weeks ago.

It seems like I bought some of those, but those baseplates look different. Maybe its just the picture.

PB

They had a low profile base plate option too. I used those in my carry guns.

Perhaps in a bit they’ll begin selling them again under a different name.

I was wondering about that. I sure hope so

So what is it that made these better that other “clips”?

I was hoping LAV had the rights and could find a new manufacturing partner; he’s gonna need all the financial help he can get now that he’s scheduled for Jackboot Passaround Party on top of his medical bills. (Let’s be real… prison medical care, LOL. Cancer care on the inside? Fuggedaboutit…)

They only have a sight hole in the back and one for the mag catch. Being sealed seemed to let a lot less debris in. The follower has scalloped edges to help it pass through any debris inside the magazine, allowing it to sluff off sand. The base plate is bigger and flared and easier to grab, whether removing from a magazine carrier out of it had became stuck in the weapon.

But in my experience I never had one failure with them. I have a couple other Wilson mags, a chip mcormick, some kimbers and had a few other various ones at one point all of them gave me hiccups somewhere. Carrying a mag in my pocket, it usually ends up with lent in it, these don’t because they’re a more sealed design. Being more sealed seems to make them more rigid.

Cool. I have like two mags and an old 1911. I’ve had Wilson mag fail and everything in between.

I’ve used mine for about 10,000+ rounds now, no mad failure yet with them. Watch I just jinxed myself

That’s impressive. I’d be loyal to these mags too.

Is the goto way to identify these mags is no holes in the side? And did they ever make 10 rounders?

PB

Yes and yes. And by the baseplate.

I’m sure if Wilsons tweaked a few things here and there they could make a version of this magazine without patent infringement. I also have several of these magazines and they run well.

Unless he’s been sentenced or you know something, we don’t really know any of that yet. The fact that he had already pled guilty by the time the indictments were announced means he is likely cooperating with the government in prosecuting the other defendants. His likely non-existent criminal history, age, health, military service, etc. make it unlikely that he will guideline very high for potential time.

I have a WWI vintage 1911 and so long as I use GI mags, it runs.

I was told by an old school 1911 Gsmith that he tested all his guns with 7 round colt mag. The only true test for reliability.

PB

I definitely prefer a standard 7 round mag.

Currently 7 round Colt mags seem hard to find. Brownells and others are out of stock.
