Nice. Let us know when you get the “compact” in. Thanks for sharing.
Here are some pics comparing the full sized 45 with the mid sized 45.

Is the only difference .5" of length? Seems odd to have a whole new part number for solely that purpose. Not really a mid-size… Perhaps it’s more right-sized than the larger.
There’s no uniformity of tech specs on the S&W website for the various part numbers. The 4" omits height. Makes comparison tricky.
Also interesting… S&W appears to have dropped the DAO descriptor for action type, now listing “Striker Fire Action.”
The reason I got at SHOT for the midsize (because I asked the same question) was so PDs that have 9s or 40s now can step up to a 45 without having to change over all of their gear (holsters and such) for the longer 45.
Well, lots of folks describe the Glock 19 that way when comparing it to the Glock 17.

Can you fit an x200 light on the midsize rail and are the backstraps the same as the M&P9 full size? I’m wondering if my CT lasergrips will fit it…
Yes and yes. It’s the exact same frame as the full size 45, just a bit shorter slide and barrel. The 9 and 45 backstraps interchange.
I can’t be the only one that saw “S&W M&P Middy!” and reached for his wallet. ![]()
IMHO the “mid-size” is a fart and the worst of both worlds: big grip and short sight radius. The grip dimension were altered from the M&P40 so based on the type of holster used, for duty there is no advantage. Certainly new mag pouches will be needed. For concealment the piece will be top-heavy in a holster and splay out from the body. I handled it at SHOT, and thought “why?”
The Compact 45, OTH, was better balanced more concealable with the shorter grip.
You are not the only one.
We have some still available.

Nice, they shortened the bbl about a half inch?
If only there really was an M&P15 mid-length… ![]()
Indeed.
Agreed. All the liabilities of the Commander or the Centurion, and others gone before with standard grips and short(er) slides. There may be merits, but…?
I can’t remember, is the mag cap on the middy 8 rounds?
Magazine capacity for the midsize is 10, just like the full size as it uses the full size grip. It’s only shorter in the dust cover area.
I’ve seen a few of these in local stores lately. They have a nice balance to them.
Nope…they have not. Download the 2008 Product Guide. For all models of M&P pistol, in the product description block they allege: Striker Fire (Double Action Only).
So after supper tonight I went down to the gun shop and looked for the umpteenth time. The M&P trigger, attached to the trigger bar, which connects to the sear and moves that sear out of the way of the cocked firing pin.
Perhaps S&W took a lesson from Bill Clinton in redefining the meaning of basic words.
“I did not have sex with that woman” = “Striker Fire (Double Action Only)”
And as in the photos posted of the M&P some half dozen new M&P pistols have the droopy dust cover.
Right!, or like Bush saying…well pretty much anything…
Aha, I stand corrected. Like the printed docs observed at S&W LE dealer(s).
