34 years today. One of the better YT channels for history in general, did an excellent job of that event:
I mention something about Ruby Ridge to my old Boss who had never heard of it.
He’s a retired CW3 and had been a Door Gunner for two tours in Viet Nam, so not an easily impressed by violence kind of Guy.
He would take a break and watch 15 minutes of it at a time always punctuated by a “Holy F’ing Shit” a time or two.
We later moved on to Waco.
He started buying a lot more Guns.
FBI sniper who was there gives his POV at that time, claims he didn’t know much for details as to why they were there, etc:
“Christopher Whitcomb, former FBI Hostage Rescue Team member involved in the infamous 1992 Ruby Ridge standoff, opened up about the deadly incident and subsequent grand jury investigation that sought possible murder charges. The standoff stemmed from the government’s attempt to arrest Randy Weaver over weapons charges, escalating after a fatal shootout that resulted in the deaths of a federal marshal and Weaver’s 14-year-old son. Whitcomb, who was called in after the initial confrontation, described his team’s role as the last line of defense, tasked with surrounding Weaver’s cabin in the Idaho wilderness under harrowing conditions. He emphasized the complexity and chaos of the operation, noting how limited communication and incomplete information fueled the tragedy. While the grand jury seriously examined Whitcomb’s involvement, he maintained his distance from the initial conflict and underscored the broader context of domestic terrorism threats at the time. Ruby Ridge remains a deeply controversial chapter in American history, highlighting challenges faced by federal law enforcement in handling armed standoffs.”
I didn’t watch this video but I heard an interview with Whitcomb on Mike Glover’s podcast several years ago. The guy is a real POS. He bragged about how many people he killed, was upset that he couldn’t be called a “veteran” even though he killed more people than most veterans and said that the shooting of Vicki Weaver was totally justified and would be again even in hindsight. Whitcomb discussed the mindset of HRT members and their total disdain for anyone not on the team- not as a critique but as a brag. So f that guy.
I’m still mad about this. Horiuchi should be publicly hanged.
I’m not sure what happened but for about ten years between the FBI Miami shoot-out and Waco, the FBI, DEA and BATF were pretty much off of the chain.
I beleive there was at least a decade there where the FBI needed to act that way perhaps in Miami but; when you export that same attitude to Idaho or Texas, rural People are going to have had enough of it.I think Waco illustrated that people were going to bend over and take that treatment anymore.
I think that “Sniper” is a full blown Psycopath.
Everything I have to say about this is….best said around the campfire.
With phones left at home.
