RMR vs Berry's 9mm bullets

Anyone tried both and found the RMR 9mm to shoot better in the bulk 115 and 124 weights?

I’ve been tearing through Berry’s 115gr Hollow Base Round Nose bullets, 115gr RN, and 124gr RN, and should probably start replacing what I’m using. (All were bought on sale.) I’ve tried Blue Bullets, but don’t seem to have luck with them. Might try the heavier Blue Bullet options later.

Just looking for the sweet spot between cheap price, decent groups, and ease of loading.

As far as accuracy requirements, most of my shooting is on scored targets.

We ran some 124 HP berry’s a few years ago, and for whatever reason, got horrible accuracy. I don’t know what the story was, but I revisited the bullets that had been sitting in my garage with some current use 9mm pistols and they shot really good. No idea what happened on the first loads.

That said I’m big on the coated lead bullets. SNS, Blue Bullets, etc. RMR was behind on production because of copper issues, and I did buy 1000 of the 135 Nukes. But if copper stays expensive, coated bullets are just as good for practice.

Am I the only one who looks at plated-on bullet jackets and thinks they seem “dry” and somehow less lubricious than regular jackets? And that they seem like they would wear a barrel quicker? I have absolutely no evidence of this and have never heard it, but…. anyone?

I have never done a deep study but my casual observation over time is that plated-jecket bullets are not the most accurate.

I too am diggin’ painted / powder-coated bullets. Less smoke, less lead in the air and on the hands, cleaner barrels (than plain lead), and on the order of 20FPS more all other things being the same. Some smell bad upon firing and some don’t, I conclude that there are perhaps several products or forumulas being used. I hope none of them are worse than “regular” gun smoke.

The Blue Bullets sure look nice, I like the charcoal grey from Missouri Bullet too. Both are a quality product. Bonus, with all the colors available you can load so that there is not mixing-up of different loads. I use this even in factory loads, I like the Federal SynTech 147’s, reall good subs and quite accurate. Highest power factor of the many subs I have tried. You will never get them mixed up with anything else. They are the color of lipstick one might find walking the streets of Amsterdam.

I always thought the plated seemed less accurate. Since they’re a pure copper plating instead of a gilding material like a real jacket you could be right.

I was shocked at how easy it was to push the 135s supersonic. Especially in my 8” sub gun barrel.

I don’t know why, but I didn’t think I could get them to shoot that fast, but they were super out of a suppressed sub gun.

Curious from a future reloader, do coated bullets versus plated require a different effort to seat the bullet in the case or the same?

Still thinking about a Lee handloader for space and portability.

You have to get a decent bell on the case mouth so you don’t shave the coating off. 40 cal is no problem, but 9mm brass I sort thoroughly to get rid of anything but FC, PMC, WIN, and Speer.

Jacket bullets are forgiving in a small belling but coated are not. Shave too many coated bullets and you can get leading in your barrel. I’ve shot a few damaged coats and had not problems with leading, but I try to keep the bullets from getting damaged.

I also tried a lyman M die.but it’s design gives a tighter grip on the bullet. I find a nice belling make seating bullets smooth. Then taper crimp the bell out of the brass and you’re good.

I have not shot any RMR 9mm bullets. Berry’s plated shot pretty well for me. Hornady HAP and Precision Delta 124 HP have been very accurate.

I have been shooting a lot of the Blue Bullets 135 TC. Not as accurate as the others above but they are surprisingly decent.

I’ve been testing out lots of different bullets for my .357, so it’s kinda like 9mm.

Berry’s have been….fine. I have a lot of the RNFP and DEWC ones. They need more powder behind them to get up to velocity, but they’re clean.

I’ve had a lot of good luck with offerings fro Acme Bullets (very similar to Blue Bullets, but red). Their 148gr SWC is a personal favorite.
