I just noticed that the removable quick release wasn’t shown on the VCAS at the bfg web site. No problem here, as I removed the it from my sling a while back. I always thought it got in the way when shouldering the weapon. Looks like the front sling swivel attachment setup was changed too.
You’re right. I hadn’t noticed this change even after looking at them on BFG website last week. I have both the regular and padded VCAS with the quick release and older front sling attachment. It does say on their website that they changed over to the simpler “Tri-Glide” front and rear attachment points to keep costs down. They still offer those quick release and other adaptors. The newer versions do appear to be a little bit more streamlined without the older attachments. Solid slings nonetheless.
For 2012 we cut back the number of various configurations available to simplify sling options for our customers. The removal of the quick relelase kit as a standard option was one of those (it also lowered the MSRP on those slings by about $5).
I thought this might be a good thread to show off my tactical sling keepers made from a bicycle tube. My 6920 is basically just a house gun, but it would be nice to have a sling in an emergency. This is on a VCAS with the quick release adapter removed.
I was wondering why the QD models were being closed out at the end of '11 for such great prices…
Can still go through G&R, I think Grant has access to plenty of these with sewn in QD attachments.
I prefer the QD models, with the exeption of the mutt slings I’ve made that use the MagPul MS2 hardware to be convertible units.
Stephen, were the sales on these dismal or something? Seems like with many rails, factory rifles, etc., coming with female QD slots all over, it would make sense that they would sell well. Heck, I’m in the market for 3-4 of em right now…sounds like perfect timing…
I meant (or was referring to) the version with the QD swivels on both ends of the sling. Does the version you linked above (VCAS-PB-200-AA) have the dual QD swivels. The AA slider is just fine by me, but I wanted the QD on the “back end” for connection to a QD mount on the receiver end plate.
VCAS-QD has always meant, in my mind, the deal QD swivel option - a one-sided one would be a true one-off.
I couldn’t find the quote on the acetal slider from LAV, but it was the intended design all along, they just made metal ones at first because they could be in production sooner - I prefer the AA model, and the cost of anodizing the metal version to make it slide as smoothly is equivalent to what BFG was selling complete new slings for.
I’ve lost count of how many VCAS-QD-Padded units I have… but they’re good.
My current sling is a padded VCAS sling with only the QD sewn in on the front (rail) end and the triglides and loop on the back (buttstock or receiver end plate) end.
I believe it was the DD model or something like that. It was offered on the BFG website and was recently discontinued. I recall a clearance sale of them from the site linked from the Vickers website. Anyways, that’s why I wanted to verify which model was the one with the dual swivels since I already have one with the sewn in QD on the front.
I’ve been experimenting with different methods of attaching the back end of the sling to my guns. I recently got a QD swivel and added it into the loop on the back end so I could attach to the QD socket on the VLTOR Imod/SOPMOD stock or the QD mount on the receiver end plate on my DDM4. I still have guns that don’t have the OD socket on the stock or on the receiver end plate, so I plan to use the one I have with the looped attachment on those.
I just checked the G&R website again and the VCAS-PB-AA (non-padded one) shows the QD swivel on both ends, so I guess it’s probably safe to assume that the padded version (VCAS-PM-200-AA) also includes the dual QD swivels.
I have one of these from back when BFG sold them. It makes for a very nice, uncluttered arrangement and I vastly prefer the one I have. I understand about reducing SKU’s, and I’m sure they made those choices based on sales figures, but I do find the apparent lack of sales to be puzzling.Good to know that G&R still has them.
That’s for sure. I was going to order 4, then decided on a few extras…plus I turned a buddy onto them who ordered last week. I think G&R will see these go fast if folks know about them…
Outta curiosity, Grant, why is the padded QD version with the acetal adjuster $3 cheaper than the one without it…
