Are current production SCAR’s essentially identical to the first ones off the line, or have there been tweaks/modifications since then?
From what I’ve seen there have been a few changes since it’s been introduced. The selector lever was changed from 45* to 90* to make it similar to a M4/AR platform carbine (step backwards IMHO), and I’ve seen pictures of a plastic piece being added inside the receiver to keep rounds from getting stuck above the barrel with the BCG. Not sure how wide spread either modification is, but they’re out there.
I think they beefed up the folding stock latch as well.

NDAs restrict me from showing pictures. But the Mk.17 of 2008-2009 and the Mk.17 of 2015-2016 (and subsequently 17S) are not the same. Nothing to radical but this is to be expected IMO. Benoit built the gun pretty quickly, then you have to account for some savages beating on the thing.
Not to worry, the gun has a lower or equal failure rate equal to or less than about anything else out there. But make no mistake the advice I have given Handl Defense is oriented to solutions for what other team guys actually dealt with.
I would buy a SCAR without reservation, well I would worry about my wallet…LOL by the time you are done it can get pricy.
Only (some) military SCARs went to the 90 degree selector, the civie version still 45 degrees to my knowledge.
They added some springs to reduce stock rattle as well over time.
The number of lugs on the bolt was changed from 6 to 7…
