My rigs have always been simple and changes made when needed, after a couple of fanboy stints early on before I knew better. It’s been a while for me however, and there’s too much stuff out there, I don’t know how else to say it.
So I ordered an Adams Arms 11.5" basic carbine piston upper (I know, it’s not a DD, BCM, etc) but for the price I got I figured why not give it a try and see how this will do in general and with a can running on the end. So anyhow, I got the ADM mount ordered for the Aimpoint Pro, will be ordering DD fixed irons soon unless I come across a set used for cheap, and then will get the brake out 2.0 for the M4 2000. My question is the following:
What are the better options on a carbine rail setup cutout for the FSP? I would like to run this type of rail because it will give me a longer top rail tying in the rail/gas block from the upper on top, and give me added length on the sides and bottom. I shoot with my support hand out in front normally, and would like the extra room while keeping the sbr theme going. As far as “need”, I only need to mount my white light (SF X300 at this point), and a VFG…
There’s just so much out there now that I’m looking for people’s input that has been down this road recently. Currently I am between a Centurion C4 cutout, or just running an MOE and adding the illumination kit and sling mount to it…
I have both the Centurion Arms carbine FSP and a Midlength cutout. They are such great rails and so easily installed and are really solid. I have the DD RIS 2 FSP as well it is great but installation is kind of a pain and the price is pretty hefty but its a tank. Im not sure if the Adams Arms GB works with a Troy/VTAC Delta? C4 has my vote for sure though.
Easy- MagPul Slimline MOE. Dirt cheap, handles heat well, is longer than even a standard MOE handguard, covers the gas block so you don’t burn your fingers and M-Lok rail sections are easy to add as needed. Free float handguards are not as critical on an SBR because the barrels are short and stiffer than longer barrels so they deflect less. I’ve got the Slimlines on a 10.5 shorty and it will shoot 1 - 2 moa groups at 200 yards, depending on the ammo, using a back pack for a rest and a 4 moa red dot. Best bang for your buck, in my opinion
I will get you exact measurements when it arrives. In an email to AA directly on my part they informed me that any rail that is carbine length or cut out for a carbine length FSP will be even on top with their gas block. I know from researching that samson is making rails for some of their uppers and the Fortis rails have worked well too.
So for the time being I can only go off of what they told me. I have enjoyed and prefer the DD fixed sights for some time so hopefully I can continue to use them.
Well, I found the Centurion C4 Carbine cutout rail in stock at Brownells so I ordered it. We will see how it comes together with this upper. Now just need a set of DD fixed sights and I’m good. Will be basting away again soon.
