Can anyone give me some suggestions on prescription eye pro? I was thinking about getting a pair of these: http://www.oakley.com/flakjacket
Would I just bring them to my eye doctor to have them order prescription lenses or what?

I got mine through US Standard Issue, which is a good deal if you qualify. I had to fax or scan a up to date prescription and they sent me the glasses in a couple of weeks. I don’t know if this site works the same way. I also got a pair of Wiley pres. eye pro and it worked pretty much the same way.
I use glasses from Rudy Projet. They were covered by my vision insurance.

The flak jackets won’t work with all prescrips. Mine for example didn’t work and I have to go with some with full frame. I think they’re the five squared. I got them through US standard issue.
I have been using prescription eye pro for the past five years.
I have a very high prescription so I am limited to the frames that I can use due to the lens thickness. Luckily, my optometrist partnered with the eye glass store he works out of so they work in tandem. They help me pick out a frame that will fit the lenses. Then they sent it out to the lab for the prescription and fit it to the frame in the store.
If you go to a local eyeglass store, they should be able to help you out there with what you need.
The easiest thing I found if shopping online is to get your script first, and then look on the manufacturer website or check out places like opticsplanet.com. I ordered a pair of Wiley-X SG1s from opticsplanet and they have listed all limitations to the glasses. For example, http://www.opticsplanet.net/wileyx-rx-sunglasses.html (scroll half way down to see the limitations chart.)

I currently own one pair of Oakley and one pair of Wiley-X glasses with poly-carbonate, transition lenses and I love them both.
I contract for the federal government so I don’t believe that I qualify for US Standard Issue.
Apparently Wiley’s doesn’t allow prescription orders online unless you are military.
I suppose I should find a Eye doctor’s office or gun shop where I can try different frames on first.
If you have a CAC card, it should work. Mine did.
Oakley maintains a network of retailers that specialize in prescription ordering, if there is a threshold that is out of spec for them, they would most likely know… That being said, my friend has the Kings Camo flak jackets with a script the lenses are literally a 1/4in thick.
Ive been looking into the same thing. I contacted oakley and they said Id have find a local prescription oakley dealer.
Is there a place to just fax over the prescription and have it taken care of?
Someone told me once that they’re not at shatter resistant when they’re prescription. I never really investigated that.
their dealer page denotes retailers/dealers who specialize in prescriptions.
When I got my prescription Oakley’s locally, I made sure they would ANSI Z87.1 impact rated and had rated poly-carbonate lenses used. They have taken numerous impacts including one splash back from a steel target, and I wouldn’t use anything otherwise.
Really? So they ignore the Contractor part of if?
I’m pretty sure that Oakley now grinds/machines their own prescription lenses so they will fit the frame same as the regular lenses and still maintain the impact rating. They used to not do that so that’s where the change in impact rating came from. If you’re NOT eligible for the SI treatment they are ungodly expensive. They quoted my script for the Flak Jacket XL at just a tad under $600, and I have a really tame script. Haven’t tried going to one of their retailers to see if the price is any different. Wiley X has a good network of dealers that can get the lenses for you. Both the local cop shop and my optometrist are on the list. Haven’t quoted them yet though.
Another alternative my be using inserts that sit behind the factory lens. Rudy and Revision both have them available. They will add weight to the glasses as you’re lugging 2 lenses around, but they may be more cost effective.
I just registered on US Standard Issue and took a picture of my CaC card. I guess I’ll see if they accept.
Thanks a bunch for all the recommendations. They been very helpful.
Dam ill wear tinted googles over prescription glasses before I shell that out.
What about SI whats the price diff?
Also good to know they’re just as strong.
As for local dealers id beware.
I went to a local prescription Oakley dealer and discussed the Sunglasses with them. It sounded to good to be true getting quoted $90. I found out they send them to some other company to produce tinted lenses and just fit them to your Oakley frames.
woah! My friends were close to $600! And he went to a local eye doc. You might want to contact Oakley and let them know…
I got a response from SI saying I was denied but gave a bunch of possible reasons. Not sure if I should try to resubmit or just head to a local retailer.
My Oakley sunglasses are RX, but for force on force etc I wear the ICE Kit with RX insert from ESS. I like the fact that the expensive insert is protected behind the lens.- George
I went with the Flak Jacket model also. My vision insurance is accepted at LensCrafters and they carry Oakleys. I had a recent eye exam so I provided them with the perscription. LensCrafters took care of all the ordering, insurance, measurements, etc. It took about a week and I picked them up in the store. Oakley grinds the lenses ans assembles the glasses, and they come with the Oakley “O” etched in the corner of one lense, but you can get them custom just like any of Oakleys products. Definately go with the polycarbonate lenses, they are thimner and impact resistant.
I had Oakley RX glasses and sunglasses. It’s much cheaper and more efficient to just get contact lenses and standard sun/eye protection.
I’ve used them in every situation
(including mace deployment, scuba, sky diving, and long range days)
They just work better.
