We have this little piece of steel that sits on the hill by our regular 1300 yard targets. We sling a shot or two at it when the conditions are good, but we’ve never put a bullet on it until Sunday. Pappabear smacked it on the first try after hitting the regular gongs. 208 ELD out of the 300 Win Mag.

Thats awesome! Shooting those kinds of distances is a whole different world of shooting. So far my longest shot has been 1084 yards with my 308…running Berger 168 hybrids with 44.0 grns of Varget.

Man oh man, we have danced around that little piece of steel so many times. And pushed it all over that hill. Im guessing we spent $200,000 in ammo trying to hit it. If we make consistent pops on the gong and we think we know the wind, we give it a whirl.
Our range is something special, we used to carry about 4 pieces of steel on a two wheeler out to 1,000 yards, leave the two wheeler out there and pick it all up after shooting EVERY WEEK. Now we have steel at 1-2-3-5-6-750-9-1K & 1,300. Plus have the MGM challenge rack at 25 yards for AR15 work and pistol stuff. We thank our lucky stars every time we go out.

Add a seemingly endless ammo supply.
A funny tidbit is we could hear the thud from the hit. Sometimes we hear our hits and sometimes not, it surprised me to hear the hit off this tiny soft steel lying on the ground. That double headed monster is not our normal gong, its a swinging target that we can hear better off to the right.

The gong at 900 yards is actually harder to hit. The wind or whatever will make you chase your ass.

Very cool stuff. Nothing more enjoyable shooting wise than ringing steel at distance. I made an attempt at 1710 this past weekend. Went really close with two shots right underneath the plate. Although I was 0 for 25, I learned a lot and will be on a mission to get it done
The range I shoot at has targets at roughly 250, 350, 450, 550, 650, 800, 875 and 1000. The 650 bewitches me. It has magical qualities and I probably have a ratio of 1:4 hits on it to the 1000 yard target. It is off to one side and the terrain changes. It’s like the wind opens up there and I haven’t found the solution yet.

That steel over at 650, being on the other side seems to have different wind doesn’t it? I for sure know what you mean.
I love it when you get an occasional day with no wind. Good for the ego. But wind is what makes it fun / challenging too. Without it, it would get boring. Wind The double edged sword!
That’s it exactly. If we dump 2 or 3 at 900, we move on. That target will drain your ammo box.
