About 18 months ago I found out I had a double hernia.
The pre and post op recovery was not only very painful at 53, but I was much less active and put on some weight, ok a lot of weight. During the same time I was enrolled in 5 month long professional development school that was extremely stressful.
Upon completion of the school I was feeling very tired and lethargic throughout the entire and went to the Dr. thinking it might be Low T.
Well my t levels were in the mid 250’s but so was my cholesterol, and my Thyroid had totally shut down.
The Endocrinologist prescribed Pravastatin 40 MG for my cholesterol and Levothyroxin 75 MCG for my thyroid.
The thyroid medicine is easy to take, a pill in the morning and I’m good to go. The Pravastatin for me is easily forgotten as I take it before bed, for whatever reason it’s easily forgotten.
Since then I have lost 40 pounds but still have the extreme fatigue nearly every day.
I have to see this guy again in a month and I just still feel we should be taking another route with this, specifically the Low T rather than the Cholesterol route.
Any help you can offer would be appreciated.
Thanks.
The Statin can make your tiredness worse if you aren’t taking COq10 along with it.
I noticed that fatigue was one of the possible side effects.
What is really disturbing me is that I sit in this guys office and he is easily 80lbs heavier than me and telling me to change my expectations and lifestyle.
He wont consider using T as a treatment and he is pretty much got a monopoly on how he decides my treatment will go.
Finding another guy isn’t really an option as he is the only endocrinologist locally and my job and healthcare make it very difficult to go out of town to see someone else.
Why are you seeing an endocrinologist, especially for managing your cholesterol? There’s nothing particular esoteric about the problems you describe. Any competent Internist and probably most Family Practitioners can manage cholesterol, thyroid, and testosterone. Get a second opinion.
Obstructive sleep apnea?
No OSA.
If you have not done so consider looking up adrenal fatigue and if it is close to what you are experiencing talk to your md or two. GL
