President Donald Trump delivered strong speech in very particular place in Warsaw. It was very important for Poland, but also beyond. It is well worth listening to whole speech.
BTW Do not believe in Fake Media narrative of people being forced to attend, or that Poland do not approve Trump. This is just pure gold BS. No POTUS was so popular in Poland since Ronald Reagan.
I still say we should move all of our military assets out of Germany and relocate them and the money they bring to Poland. We have had no better ally from Continental Europe since the fall of the Iron Curtain than Poland.
Easier to say than to do. The joint training area in Bavaria is key for our European operations as well as Middle East/Africa ready response. And would be hard to duplicate elsewhere.
Not impossible, just hard and expensive. And might not achieve the effect with the Germans you are hoping for.
I know it wouldn’t be easy, or probably even tactically sound. And I know it wouldn’t cripple the German economy. But it would hurt like a swift kick in the balls and send a clear message.
Who cares. Should be done on principal alone. I care not for an “effect” on Germany. We possibly had too much effect on them in 1944-45. 70 odd years later and they are still in a collective fetal position sucking their socialist thumbs.
We’ve already moved a heavy brigade into Poland and the Baltics rather than the light battalion normally there.
That leaves 2CR strykers plus a couple of BNs from another unit normally in Germany from a line unit perspective.
So already the balance is shifting a bit. You could argue we are already keeping more line unit BNs outside of Germany (Poland, Baltics, plus Italy) than inside. But there’s a ton of command, support, AD and air in Germany. So your point is valid, it’d be a big economic impact if moved. Just don’t see it happening due to the nato dynamics.
Can’t remember if they staffed up the fwd deployed armor in Germany, that might change the mix.
I’m not concerned about any negative impact on Germany, more the popular view if the US pulled out.
Most younger (under 30-35?) do not want US troops there even if their gov does. And the economy benefits from it.
So we take our toys and move east. Younger Germans and Merkel declare victory, push for EU combined army. Older Germans are perplexed but silent. Old Germans shake their heads, remembering post WW2 and cold war/Eastern germany
Very short memories
Same sort of applies for Italy… Gov and defense wants us there. Poplace does not hate us, but does not want big green stationed there even as they benefit economcally.
The “front” hasn’t been the Fulda Gap for over 20 years. Time to recognize that reality and move our forces further east. Poland seems more than willing to host us.
Besides the Germans need to up their military spending to meet NATO obligations. I’m sure they could utilize some of the bases we leave behind.
We paid an awful lot of money to stay and finally a lot to leave. If you’re a GI in Germany ora Military Retiree the German .gov screw you any way they can. Retired Military and want to use the PX or Commissary?
You pony up some cash and pay taxes to the German Government…
I’m, they have some damned short memories.
Even before that Russian military planners were really concerned that Polish troops will refuse to fight against US troops or can even defect if will encounter US units. And not because of cowardice or poor morale. Far from that.
That was an amazing speech, he states this is about the Western Nation’s survival and to bring Russia into the fold to defeat a common enemy- tyranny and extremist ideology.
I am glad to see POTUS making that speech, especially there. Poland has been a a very strong friend and ally of the United States, and I am delighted to see that fact recognized.
Polish heroes have been by our side from the beginning! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casimir_Pulaski
Pulaski emigrated to North America to help in the cause of theAmerican Revolutionary War. He distinguished himself throughout the revolution, most notably when he saved the life ofGeorge Washington. Pulaski became ageneralin theContinental Army, created thePulaski Cavalry Legionand reformed the American cavalry as a whole. At theBattle of Savannah, while leading a daring charge against British forces, he was gravely wounded, and died shortly thereafter.
Appreciate you posting this. I can’t remember a time where I was more proud of a President except when I was a kid and Reagan was in office.
Poland and other Eastern European nations are holding their own, thankfully. They have not been infected with Cultural Marxism and thus committed collective suicide like the Western European nations have.
After this speech every real Polish patriot worth his salt is standing behind Donald Trump. He has huge credit of trust from us now (he had it before with lot of us, but not to this extent). Now we must see him deliver. On of best political commentators in Poland “translated” this whole speech in few words (please excuse my poor translation, part with dog is Polish idiom):
“I’m organizing a team with purpose to defense of our civilization and our interests. Who signs in can count on me, if he will follow my rules - because I’m the boss here. Who does not want to join - dogs can dance with him, it’s his problem”. And Poland signs in.
EDIT:
Central Europe. POTUS was very careful to observe this in his speech. While we were forced to be part of “Eastern Block” we are Central Europe.
