Hello im going to pick up a Phantom for my new toy amd I was wondering if you guys know if the newer Phantom 5C2 Comp/Flash Suppressor does as good of a job for FS as the original?

5C1’s and 5C2’s are not quite as effective as standard 4 port phantoms due to the un-balanced nature of the closed bottom port.
It’s not enough difference that you would be able to notice it with the human eye though.

The 5C2 is the best seller followed by the 28A. Both work well.

Do these have to be timed or do they just screw on?
You just use the supplied crush washer and tighten it up until it lines up. Pretty easy.
I believe the 5C1 and 5C2 have to be timed so the closed portion is at 6 o’clock.
Is it just a matter of lining up the solid portion of the Phantom so it is downwards or is there more to it? I have never timed a FS and really dont know what it consists of.
Ive been looking at one to replace my Mini-Y comp. What model would I need to get if I had to have it permanently attached? I like the 5C2 for the same reason you listed 
but is there a certain model I need for my application?

Basically, yes. You just want to make sure you’ve got it torqued down properly and that the solid portion is at 6 o’clock.
