I put 150 rounds through my P14 ‘Gun Rights’ pistol, and the claw of the extractor broke off. I called Para Ordinance, got to talk with a live person quick enough, and he instantly agreed to get a new extractor in the mail, or I could send the gun in for them to do it. All first rate service so far. Then, he asked if I wanted to purchase the newer extractor designed to replace the extractor that I had. It is he described, an improved extractor that would be shipped with all 2012 guns replacing the older extractor version. The cost, $72 shipped. I asked him to consider giving me the newer extractor, since presumably my older extractor design was replaced for some reason… perhaps because the claw tended to break off? No dice, I had to purchase the current design extractor or accept the older model, the one that broke in my gun. Am I missing something here??? :neo:
I just put a new P14 Tactical (top of the line Para) on Layaway. What year is your Gun Rights Para? This does not bode well for me since mine will be technically a 2011 model.
I got mine in February 2011.
I would say just get the free (warrantied) extractor from them. If it breaks again, you can probably get the newer design since they won’t be making the older design anymore (just a guess). If it doesn’t break, you still win.
A diplomatic solution; one which I considered. But what happens to me if the extractor breaks again while I am trying to defend myself from an armed home invader? In that case I am left in the gunfight armed only with what is essentially, a single shot breach loading handgun.
To be completely honest, you should have bought something better. Para Ordnance has QC issues out the wazoo, and they are not a highly regarded manufacturer around here. I had a Para 1911 LTC in 9mm that was effectively a single shot pistol from day one. The damn thing would not extract or eject spent case on every single shot I put through it. Mine is a sample of one, but yours also failed you. Now you can’t trust it. How can you trust that this newer extractor design is more reliable? Why is Para changing their PXT design now when the thing has been around for a long time? If you want to use a 1911 to defend yourself, buy from a quality manufacturer.
Well, sad but all true unfortunately. The new extractor came in today. I’ll get it in the gun and then probably sell it. Disapointing, because I liked the high capacity.
There is a fix for that. Get a different slide/bbl combo installed on the hi-cap frame. It will require a ramped bbl and it won’t be cheap. But you can have a hi-cap with a Colt, Caspian, Baer, etc upper.
