Optics for my AR

I’ve been contemplating on 3 products, Trijicon Reflex $400+ with flattop mount, Aimpoint Micro T-1 $480 , and the Sig Sauer STS-081 $175. The Sig functions and looks similarly as the Aimpoint. Same material. Almost $300 less . Not waterproof like the Aimpoint, but I’m not planning dipping myself underwater. Only con mentioned was that hard to see on bright light conditions. I’ve never handled either one. I’m hoping to get expert opinion from you guys.

Thanks.

AIMPOINT COMP C3 WITH MOUNT 450.00.

Have an Aimpoint ML3, works great. You can’t go wrong with an Aimpoint product.

you can find compCs for $350, add a YHM riser and you can co-witness for a grand total of $370

you can get a comp c with larue or adm mount for sub $500 from grant, except he’s out of stock

Irons work fine … save your pennies until you can get a quality optic. Aimpoints have a long and established track record … that silly SIG optic that they throw on 556’s is not a serious optic IMO.

Check e-Bay and other auction sites … you can often find great deal on Aimpoints from guys who want to “upgrade” the the latest and greatest Aimpoints. There is nothing wrong with the originals.

The Sig aimpoint is nothing more than a chinese T1 clone with a stupidly ridiculous markup because it says Sig on the side.

Dont waste your money.

More then a year has passed since the last post and I was wondering if everyone actually used the Sig Sauer STS-081 sight? They appear to be selling at a discount price ($75.00) and I was looking for a review.

Yes. Not just used, but tested.

Long story short, you can put it on a .22 rimfire rifle or something like it and shoot it off a bench for a long, long time with no issues.

Put it on a work platform (any hard-use gun), you’ll end up spending that money, and more, all over again when it breaks. If your AR or similar platform gets shot more than 5000 or so rounds in a year’s time, spend the money and get a quality optic.

Look at it this way: spend $400-600 to get something that will, no kidding, last you in excess of a decade = $40-60/year.

Spend $75-150 on something you’ll end up replacing with another of the same or whatever else catches your eye because it’s cheap, you’ll spend at least that every 2 years, end up spending the same amount of money or more, and end up having to re-zero the thing every time the weather changes (instead of merely confirming zero with an optic that holds its zero, once established).

Calling the Sig a piece of garbage is an insult to upstanding pieces of garbage worldwide.

So can you tell us what exactly failed on the Sig and after how long? Can you share the actual particulars of your review/test.

Thanks

These were released to the market at a price point in excess of 200 dollars.

They are now on sale for 75 dollars…what more do we need to say?

For what its worth ive taken apart, as in completely disassembled some no name Microdots and also one sig saur unit. I will be honest, i have no basis of comparison as i do not have the balls to take apart one of my Genuine T1’s but i will say that the quality of construction of the sig unit and the other chinese sights suck. They’re simply not put together well or held together well. Quality of materials is also terrible, lots of zinc alloy pot metal that is very and i mean very brittle, no anodizing or what would seem to be any kind of real finish at all as the units were all very prone to scratches.

These units are a ripoff unless you’re popping them on a .22 where they will serve you well.

My notes are my own, and the guy with the official stuff is a careerist jackhole that I hate, so I ain’t calling him…

Highlights:

2 of 4, the battery contacts started failing inside of 3000rds of M855 on an M4. 4 of 4, within 5000rds.

4 of 4 failed 3’ drop tests while attached to an M4 on the first round, which was on turf. That includes on the butt, on each side, on the top, and at least 3 random tosses. One shattered on a side-drop, the rest failed subsequently, and while they didn’t shatter, one’d have to power-cycle the things and smack them for the dot to come on/stay on. The one that managed to survive drops enough to work (intermittently), zero at 100m was off by 6" and the group was 5" in diameter.

For a hint, the next round would have been 6’, then 9’, then we’d have moved on to concrete. Before that could even be thought about, all samples were non-operational.

Placed firmly, in red ink and giant letters, on the NO-GO list. In my handwritten notes, I’d scrawled a note to find whichever acquisition bubba thought this’d be a viable RDS and kick him square in the junk.

Take it for what it means: Fine for plinking, not something you want to depend your life upon or even count upon to last for more than a year or so of moderate use on a serious gun.

You can spend $75+ on a set of used MBUS and get more value out of your money.

I always like to ask for the particulars of a claimed test/review as many people who share a negative opinion have never even owned or used the item they disapprove of.

Thank you for the information.

Exactly, Sig should be ashamed to sell that cheap chicom shit. They tarnished their rep with that move, and the horrendous QC as of late.

Skip the T1, get the non NV H1 to save a few bucks. H1 is the way to go, lightweight and it’s Aimpoint. Best deal around is smartgunner.com with the Larue mount combo

To be completely honest, there are $40 airsoft optics that have survived my own 6’ drop tests where those failed, and those are rubbish optics.

Just run irons for now, and when you see a deal on a used Aimpoint ML3 or something similar, jump on it.
