Opinons on Spyderco Manix 2 for EDC?

I need a Knife for my every day carry and i have been searching around, this will be carried on my left side in the front pocket and so far just looking around and staying with my under 170$ budget i found the spyderco manix 2 in foliage green

any other opinions on the knife or other knives i should consider?

I’m a big fan of the Benchmade Axis locks. The 950 Rift is my current favorite.

I’m getting ready to pick up a SOG Visionary II. The SOG Arc-Lock is supposed to be very similar to the Axis and I’d like to compare.

Zero tolerence.

Manix is a fine knife. However its not as stout as a ZT or Emerson. Its also on the small side imho.

I would check out the Hogue EX01 knives. I plan on getting one once I decide on the blade style. They have 3.5 or 4 inch blade lengths and if you look around you can get them from around $135 to $155 delivered.

I have a Manix2 in black. It’s a fantastic cutter and very ergonomic. It is thin enough but wide from backspacer to top of blade when closed and fills the pocket a bit. It also has a treatment around the handle that is a pocket eater but serves well in making the knife stick to your hand. The choil is very useful. Mine is in 154cm and was $80ish shipped. Having said all this, I carry my RJ Martin Overkill and Greg Lightfoot FCF much more.

You guys are recommending ZT for EDC?.. I hope they make something smaller than my 0200 was. I’m not sure where you’re at… But no way I’d carry it EDC. Any public use would likely get officers on the scene from the frightened timid types shitting themselves.

The 950 Rift is pushing the limits of “socially acceptable” IMO. I sold my ZT as I thought anything that needed to be that big/stout might as well be a fixed blade.

YMMV

The ZT 350 is smaller and can be had for around $120. The blade is around 3 1/4.

The best of the mass production options.

Hadn’t seen that before.

Interesting.

I like the knives… Just thought they were too big for a folder to be practical (at least for me). I might try out that 350 though.

… Not sure if I can go back to a liner lock.

We had a ZT 350, and sold it in favor the the basic Manix 2. With the Spyderco you won’t have any issues with folks mistaking it for an automatic knife, or overzealous prosecutors trying to make a name by getting those evil assisted openers off the streets, to protect the chill’uns, ya know…

I ended up goign with the manix 2, for the price of 130$ shipped new i thought it was a pretty good deal in teh foliage green, it arrives today and i can’t wait to get home and handle it.

The Foliage Green Manix 2 should be a full flat grind (sweet!) and the specialty Carpenter XHP steel. Very nice choice!

I plan on sending in both our Manix2’s to have Tom Krein put a full flat grind on them both.

After many production knives $50-$500 from BM, ZT, Spydie, Chris Reeve, Strider, Hinderer, etc… I sold them all and stuck with a good ole Benchmade Griptilian, hollow ground, with the hole opener. Light weight, good steel, cheap, great lock. For some reason I couldn’t get over worrying about losing the $400-$500 knives…

Needless to say I’m diggin my BM.

Its hard to beat a Benchmade 520 (3.5" blade) or the 525 (3" blade) for an EDC. Bomb proof and the sheeple dont freak when you use one in an office as it isn’t as “scary” as other blade designs.

Handle an axis lock and become a believer. No other locking system is as fast and one handed friendly.

I had a kershaw ken onion design blur… best edc knife I’ve owned. Lost it in the move which really upsets me. Now I’m carrying a sog trident. I hate that there is a lock to keep the blade from opening which is overly easy to engage. I think I’ll need to tear the knife apart and remove it.

Anybody know how the CTS XHP steel in the green foliage model compares to S30V etc as far as easy of sharpening, edge retention, durability?

Sounds like you already made your buy. I have been carrying a Spyderco Para-Military as my EDC for a yearish now and I love it. Perfect size and KEEN.

yup made the buy and the knife is delivered but i didn’t go home yesterday so I will see it today and put a few pictures up

so far after handling it i really like the handle and the appears to be sharp and its easy to open and not too hard to close, otherwise i really cant review it until it has had sometime in my pocket lol
