Opinions needed on Safariland 6355 or 6354

Been running a chest rig and a Bladetech kydex belt holster that rides high on the belt. I was looking for a drop leg holster to gain some space between the chest rig and the holster and a buddy pointed me to the Safariland 6355 and 6354 ALS holsters. Looked like it might be a nice improvement to my existing setup.

I’m looking for suggestions on which way to go, 6355 with the quick detach belt clip of the 6354 without. I saw a thread where folks were wearing this pretty high up on the leg (without the top strap) and looks to be about ideal but unsure which way to go.

Interested in hearing your thoughts.

One can take a standard Safariland shroud and cut it to make high-ride use better, and use only the lower leg-strap, or go with the 6004-10 shroud; smaller, with a single leg strap.

The 6004-DFA is another way to go; looks like a -10 shroud, but with a belt “loop” attachment instead of a webbing suspender for the belt.

Or, a UBL that drops the holster and offsets it from the body slightly; no leg strap. Mid-ride and 1.5" drop versions.

The MLS system to allow one to swap different holsters onto the same belt system.

Doesn’t Bladetech have an attachable offset one can use?
EDIT: Yeah, here it is: http://www.blade-tech.com/Drop-Offset-Attachment-w-ASR-pr-961.html

it’s also possible to take the Bladetech holster and put it in a drop-leg platform.

You’ll see some of this same stuff and other solutions in the First-Line Belt thread stickied at the top of this subforum.

I am in no way an expert. I asked a similar question a couple years ago and was clued into this:

I like it.

I bought the 6004 DFA for use out here in Afghanistan and have had no issues with it. If you go with one of the models you mentioned above get the one without the fastec clip attachment. It lacks the adjustment range to get it up high enough. Here is a good link from Kyle Defoor and his take on the different Safariland options. http://www.kyledefoor.com/2010/03/safariland-secrets.html

If you’d like to experiment with the buckle option, Jones Tactical makes a replacement strap and buckle system. It features a Cobra buckle, so it wont be cheap. And it’s Jones Tactical so there will be a bit of a wait involved. But for anyone who has had a plastic SRB break on them, the Cobra buckle will be well appreciated. The only reason I can think of to use a strap with a buckle would be to ensure that you could ditch the entire holster quickly if it ever got caught on some strap or something and you needed to move, however the likelihood of this happening is certainly very low.

Anyways, if you’re interested, it’s not on his site yet. You’ll have to custom order it through him if you’re interested. You may be able to have him shorten it up as much as is possible in order to get it to ride higher on your thigh.
