PRACTICAL RIFLE AND PISTOL Port St Joe, FL- Next event Saturday March 29, 2014
The Practical Rifle Port St Joe events are a subset of the Gulf Rifle and Pistol Club (Port St Joe, FL) activities with the following goals:
- Allow the user to develop the skills of the practical application of the rifle, with the sidearm in a supporting role, by practicing for and competing in “practical-” or “defensive-” style rifle and sidearm firing events, utilizing multiple targets in a dynamic setting with multiple positions and locations, and with movement.
- Promote the safe, responsible, and proficient operation of the rifle and sidearm.
- Promote the positive image of private firearms ownership.
Note: the intended audience for rifles is service rifles or carbines with your choice of iron sights and/or optics. Some events will emphasize SPRs/DMRs/F-Class rifles, etc. The intended audience for sidearms is any service sidearm or sidearm appropriate for CCW. These events are Class III-friendly.
Events will be held as our schedules allow, but look for us on Wednesday evenings and on the second and / or fifth Saturday of the month, when there is one. Check back our sched or get on our mailing list (see below) to see when we will hold events and for special instructions. Events will occur during daylight and during hours of darkness. See also the Gulf Rifle and Pistol Club events calendar. You do not need to be a Gulf Rifle and Pistol Club member to participate in these events, but we encourage you to join in order to practice on non-event days.

Practical Rifle and Pistol:
These courses of fire are still under final development, but will emphasize a target set closer than 100 yds for rifle, with a few targets possibly beyond 100 yds. Approx 50-75x rifle rounds will be required, but you may want to bring extra rounds if time allows for additional shooting. You will need at least 2x good magazines, a sling, mag-carrying pouches, etc. Expect movement and possibly multiple positions, but participants will not be expected to perform beyond any physical limitations.
For the pistol event, you may fire from “open carry” or concealment - participants are encouraged to bring their CCW setup. You will need approx 25-40x pistol rounds and the appropriate number of magazines / speed loaders, holster, etc and may want to bring extra rounds if time allows for additional shooting. Expect movement and multiple positions, but participants will not be expected to perform beyond any physical limitations.
BRING LIGHT TO MEDIUM GLOVES THAT COVER YOUR ENTIRE HAND (INCL THE KNUCKLES AND BACK) FOR THIS EVENT.
Additional items: eye pro, ear pro, hat w/ brim or bill, footwear suitable for wet and/or loose ground, insect repellant, sun screen, etc.

The rifle event will be SBR-, SMG-, PCC-, and .22-friendly, but you may have to “stretch it” for a few shots. The sidearm event will be SMG-, PCC-, and .22-optional. It is under development as to whether it will support SGNs or SBRs this time - it should be able to support one or the other, but not both.
