I have a Noveske middy with the MUR upper. I installed a tango down vertical grip and it was super tight on the rail, had to damn near hammer it down. Tried a buddies DD grip and had the same result. Ladder panels are very tight but do fit, is thi normal operation?
Tango Down VFG’s are notorious for being a PITA to get on some rails. I broke one in half trying to get it on a LaRue rail a few years ago.
Ladder panels shouldnt too hard to get on but Ive had some that are harder than others.
TD VFG’s tolerances are pretty close so it’s normal for it to be tight on some and just average on others. Depends on the rail. Mine slides on rather smoothly on my DD rails. Trade of for that is a bit of movement. Very slight though and only happens when you intentionally push it forward or back.
As for ladders, Magpul’s are stiffer than Ergo’s. Magpul’s is close to plastic while Ergo’s is closer to rubber or atleast that’s they feel to me.
Only things I’ve had difficulties with fitting to my SWS rail is Gear Sector stuff. A handstop and a G2 light mount.
They went on, but I had to bang them on with a mallet to get them to slide where I wanted them. Guess that kinda dismisses using the word “slide,” really.
Nothing else has been a problem, so I have to figure it’s tight tolerances on Gear Sector stuff. TD rail covers are pretty snug, but don’t need convincing to move.
Yea I preatty much have to beat the TD grip up and down the rail, same with my friends DD grip. It seems to be just cutting the inside of the grip down so I guess it will move with less effort once it’s worn in. Just seems odd. I haven’t tried any other gear yet.
Same experience with the TangoDown VFG on my SWS/Noveske rail. It was almost a no-go onto the rail, so I opted for the BOBRO instead. I did have ladders on for a time, but now I run it bare.
Very common problem. The answer has always been a small file and about 10 minutes. I don’t use VFG’s anymore but when I did I would change the VFG vs. scarring the $300.00 rail by beating on it.
I thought about doing this to but my rail is much harder than my grip and there isn’t any damagage to it. The grip on the other hand has undergone some changes from the rail.
Common issue with TD grips. I’ve had them go on tight to DD, LT, SWS, Troy and Samson rails. Hammer tight.
As much as a PITA as it is to get one on when tight, I am thankful for that tightness later on. I have one VFG that is tight and another that has movement (both TD), and the movement can be annoying and sometimes distracting. In my opinion, tight is good to go, just lightly oil the rail before installing and use a rubber or wooden mallet to TAP, not bang, the thing into place. If you don’t like oil as a lubricant, try graphite.
