Hey there NOVA - thought it would be good to revitalize the old link but this really needs to be a new post and not something to scroll through to find a post in the current decade.
With that said, we need more “modern” and current info for our community then what google can provide. With the fall of Blue Ridge/Whatever “fish” during covid and Elite sold off a year ago, choices are limited. Xcal is a newer players and there is some scuttle of a new range in Tysons coming soon. I thought we can bring a 2024 perspective on ranges to the area since there has been changes.
Lets here about a range you frequent and some of the good/bad/whatever folks should know about.
So - I will go first:
NRA Range in Fairfax.
Good: Nice indoor 50 yard range. Allows rifles, shotguns (no small shot, 00 and slugs only). Allows firing from the draw. Well lit, nice waiting area with basic amenities. Friendly and helpful staff(Not the Range Nazi’s of a decade ago). Lots of parking.
Not great: Limited range gear to buy. Limited hours of operation (based on limited staff/RSOs. Must keep target centered due to length of range(dont want shots off the floor or into ceiling). No Full Auto or Black powder allowed and…No coffee bar ![]()
