Noob

Hey Guys, I just wanted to drop a line and intoduce myself. I am a detective with the Little Rock Police Dept. in Arkansas. I have been with my dept. for 9 years. I currently do not own a black rifle, but am starting my first build now.

I just ordered an LMT upper from Grant yesterday. I will be pairing it with a bushmaster complete lower and an LMT BCG.

I have been stalking on here for a few weeks and learning up on things. Thanks to all that put advice on here. It has really taught me alot already, and I know it is just the beginning.

I do have a noob question though. I did not find an answer when I looked for one. What is a SOPMOD stock? and how is it different from any other M4 stock??

A “SOPMOD” stock has a “V” shaped cheek weld in the mold of the stock. It was designed by Crane and it is manufactured by LMT. I think they run about $250 ish… I would go with VLTOR if you are interested in that type of stock, its more modular and easily tailored for individual shooters.

Here is a pic of my SBR when I had an LMT SOPMOD stock on it.

It’s a great stock. It has just about the best cheek weld you can get, and it’s very well made. It has an excellent rubber buttpad and has two watertight tubular compartments for holding batteries or spare parts.

I only switched (to a Magpul CTR) because I wanted something a bit lighter and slimmer on my shortie. For a carbine, I think the SOPMOD is a great choice.

In addition to the SOPMOD and Vltors, I recommend considering a Magpul.

If you plan on carrying the rifle in a police cruiser (or unmarked car) you might want to check to see what type of weapon lock your department has (if any).

Some of them have a narrow slot that the buttstock sits into that might not fit the wider SOPMOD stock.

Ooooh…I see now. Thanks guys for the response. I will have to look at all of them and decide what I want to go with.

It will not be carried in any work car. This is strictly for pleasure, not for work. Thanks for that info though. Would have really needed to look at that as well if that was the case.

Welcome aboard !

Thanks!
