what’s the difference between this and a regular gas tube
?

DB

They are black.

To the OP…They are still listed as out of stock until the end of August. Any idea as to when they will be back in stock?

True! Our Nitromet gas tubes are black and harder than SS tubes
(64rc). We should have more in stock in a few weeks. Keep checking our website www.wmdguns.com Also Brownell’s will be carrying them shortly.

Why is having a higher surface hardness important in this component?

The member above me beat me to the pertinent question…

The nipple on end of the gas tube is the wear area that seals into the gas key. Nitromet adds hardness and that increases the life of that area and the gas tube. Plus the black color looks better with open handrails.

Gas tubes aren’t exactly a high wear item but, what kind of increase are you seeing during testing? 5%, 10%? Or is this a theoretical increase in service life?

We do consider the nipple area of the gas tube a high wear area. We test fire every NiB-X BCG that we make and the first part to wear out was the gas tube. We are test firing every BCG 3 to 5 rounds each and testing hundards at a time before we ship them. We now get about 40% more life out of a Nitromet gas tube.

This…

and at C scale 64, what effect will it have on the chrome lining in the gas key?

I would speculate that if you were to wear out a gas tube/gas key, you would have long since worn out your barrel, especially if you shoot for accuracy and have the capability to tell a difference.

I’m not intrested in it for increased surface hardness, but rather its black finish, and that it doesn’t get that way through a paint that will flake/wear off, and is resistant to gun cleaning chemicals.

The finish (Nitromet. QPQ, SBN, Melonite) becomes parts of the metal. So it never flakes or comes off. The color is black so you never have to see a silver tube on your black rifle!!

They are out of stock now. When are the gas tubes coming back?

Looks like the end of the month we will back in stock. Call and place a backorder so you are in line to get them.
