Nightforce Night Force NSX 1-4 FC-2 ?'s

Needing an optic for a suppressed 14.5" Noveske.

What I have experience with:

Various RDS from Aimpoint T1, ML2, to cheap stuff from China built in the C-more pattern.

ACOG TA11F.

Various Leupold VXIII’s from 3-9 to 6.5-20X.

I have never even looked through a Nightforce scope.

-I like the FC-2 reticle.

-I don’t like the extra weight over the ACOG. Is it worth it to be able to have a 1.0XX magnification (I hear it’s not EXACTLY 1.0)? Further, when I look through my ACOG with one eye vs. both eyes, the POA shifts by about 6" at 50 yards. Will the nightforce do the same thing, or can I shoot it both eyes open with no POA shift on 1X?

-How does it do on 4X compared to the ACOG in the light-gathering/clarity department? My TA11F could be used at night and it was actually brighter looking through the optic than looking around without it. VERY IMPRESSIVE! Just soaked up the light. During the daytime, it was exceptionally clear.

-How durable are they? I heard one guy complain on here that the magnification “walked” (ring turned) while he was shooting it. This was back in 2006 though. They fix that quirk? The whole occular moves when you select magnification. Weak-point? Non-issue?

-I want an ACOG and an Aimpoint rolled into one that will function with or without a battery. I don’t want the dot to wash-out behind a powerful white light at night. Day-time illumination is much less important than this. Other than a $2600 S&B Short-Dot, is this as close as I can get, or do you guys have one better for me in the <$1500 range?

Take a look at the Meopta 1-4x22. Daylight visible illuminated reticle and BDC. ~$975

The Nightforce illumination is not daylight visible so its not going to work like an Aimpoint, and even at that its full reticle illumination not a dot.

There are some cheaper 1-4X’s out there and some with day light visible reticles but in the end I think you would be a lot happier with a used SB Short-Dot or Swarovski Z6i 1-6. You can buy a good condition used one for $1600 if you have patience and broaden your search. I would not buy a $1200 NF that isn’t nearly as well designed or built, doesn’t have as good of glass, and has illumination that isn’t even day light visible.

If you’re looking to spend less than $1k there is a lengthy thread floating around on 1-4X options in that price range.

I like that. How does glass performance compare to the ACOG I am used to, and how “quality” is the build/reliable/durable is it compared to NF?

Purely “by the numbers” it looks to be just as good as the S&B short-dot.

No, I don’t think the quality/durability/glass is as good, I just mean the features.

Has anyone broken one yet? Light transmission compare to my ACOG? How close to 1X is it really?

NSX 1X and 4X images below. Targets around 100y away. I have no idea how you could fault NF construction in any way, even as compared to S&B… I chose my NF over a S&B years ago over size, weight, and the lackluster S&B battery life. It works perfectly now on a 16" 7.62 Noveske.

However, I really like the TR24G now for a general AR optic, especially for the price!

More importantly, I have no idea.why Aimpoint can’t just build a 1-8x scope around a T1.

I’ve been researching variable optics for a very long time.

Know what I learned?

ACOG is the answer.

That and I’d like to play with an Elcan.

I’m following your TA44 procurement and am very interested to know about the reticle shift issue. If it has a problem with this, it greatly diminishes my desire to own one, as I would have to use it with only 1 eye open, and then why not just get an RDS?

I own a NightForce NXS 1-4X24 with FC-2 reticle and I’m happy with it. As others have said the illuminated reticle is not visable during the day and guess what? Who gives a shit  This is in my opinion a non issue with this optic. I’m happy with mine and BTW I purchased mine in the equipment exchange mouted on a LaRue mount for 975.00 bucks.

I find that the FC-2 Reticle is way faster than any other I have tried but I imagine the S&B Illuminated dot would be pretty fast but the price difference is not worth it for me.

The TR-24G is also a great optic…

There isn’t reticle shift.

I shot one that a friend was about to sell to his dad, and I liked it a lot.

Amber reticle sucks in many environments.

Rain is NOT one of them. I’m getting the green though.

Is that personal? Have you had another acog, like a ta11 which I know shifts for me? I’m wondering if your experience with the ta44 not shifting is personal, or across the board.

I had a TA31ECOS-G which I mentioned in another thread. Which had a 7’’ or so shift at 50m. I learned to aim off to my right to compensate.

And I’ve heard it’s across the board. Ask MilitaryMoron, he documented his experience with one.

My friends all said that they didn’t experience shift either.

Awesome! Thank-you. Looks like I may go with this. Still in limbo on it, but leaning that way.

Glad I could help you out, man.

Know which color reticle you want?

They say geniuses pick green…

That’s what I’m choosing. After using it on the TA31ECOS-G.

You had an ACOG before?

An rco and a ta11f. Rco had no! Eye relief. Ta11f was sold with the rifle.

I recently got a TA44 sr 10. No shift. I guess I’m dumb because I went with red.

I like the red better than green. I have a TA33H-G and wish I would have got the red instead.
