I just acquired an HK marked Benelli M1 as the title suggests. Appears to be low round count, finish is in good shape, it’s just filthy from sitting. This one’s smoothbore all the way, were any of these fitted with a slug barrel? For a tactical looking shotgun with rifle sights I was expecting a slug barrel, guess that’s what I get for not looking :). Oh well, I can’t wait to shoot it. Pics to follow.
For a tactical looking shotgun with rifle sights I was expecting a slug barrel,
You expected wrong. Rifled (slug) barrels are good for ONLY one thing: sabot slugs. Given that tactical shotguns are designed for combat and not deer hunting, where a variety of loads (primarily buckshot) are used, a rifle barrel is the last thing you’d want on that kind of gun.
Forgot one thing. The barrel’s marked CAL 12 Magnum CL. Am I right that it’s 3" compatible and cylinder choke?
I have a M1 too. I found that the Wolf +25% power spring did wonders for my guns cycling and reliability with ALL loads. The early HK marked M1’s get a bad rep for being ammo picky… from my experience and that of others (Benelli board members) The recoil spring was the culprit.
Just a thought for if yours doesn’t eat up everything you put in it.
