So this rifle has about 300 hundred rounds down it and has been charged maybe 18 times or so between the range and at home. Is this good to go. The BCM and S&W don’t show this and have been used a heck of a lot more. The wear is down to the gold color of anodizing and you can feel it with a toothpick where it grooves in. Seems odd. Considering it is relatively new I am thinking it is going to get worse. thoughts? thanks.
perfectly normal. Al mine have that to a greater or lesser extent.
If there’s no drag feeling on the CH when you dry rack the gun, forget about it. You could move CHs around for comparison.
I feel a bit of dragging with all of them. You can also ell the burning smell when the charging handle is worked.
It’s normal, and will vary slightly rifle/CH to rifle/CH. Looks like you’re running the BCG well lubed, and the CH with a good film of it as well. Should work just fine.
You must work your charging handle pretty fast to gets things burning like that.
Nope. Doing the same thing I have been doing for over five years on my other rifles. None show this type of wear. Some have thousands of rounds down them and countless times using the charging handle.
Yep. Some rifles do it worse than others, it doesn’t lead to a problem and is perfectly fine and acceptable. The burning smell is weird, but common. It’s like wear on the the upper where the cam pin hits…it happens. It won’t “get worse,” partially because worse implies that it’s a little wrong now and will be more wrong in the future…neither of which is true. The other reason is that because it won’t get worse because it’s simply part of the process many if not most rifles experience.
That’s based on experience with pretty much every “M4C approved” brand.
Yeah. Those BCM gunfighters stink like that too.
I get the “burning smell” with a gunfighter CH in my DD upper but not in my 6920…The burning smell in the DD is quite strong and will happen after only one pull of the charging handle…
I get the same burning smell w/ the BCM GF on my BCM, KAC, and DD. My charging handles are well lubed along w/ the BCG.
I don’t lube the CH anymore. Just let that sucker smooth itself out. Lube only prolongs the agony. ![]()
Anybody know what it is about the gunfighter CH that causes the burning smell?
I can’t remember and I am at work so I can’t test but I am pretty sure I got the burning smell with the DD stock charging handle also…
Again no smell with gunfighter CH in my Colt though…
I always thought it was lube that made that smell. Good to know.
Burning smell here too, DD upper, GF CH.
