My Latest SBS

I SBS’d my Remmy 870 a couple of years ago at 14". It handled well with good accuracy but just wasn’t quite short enough. I had a spare barrel laying around so I cut that down this morning to 12". Now it is one sweet CQB HD blaster. It knocks down steel poppers at 100 yards first time every time with slugs. The Reflex II sight makes it too easy. Next thing to do is swap out the Reflex with a T-1 Micro and see how that works. I tried stoking it with some of those Aquila mini slugs and even without a mag tube extension it still holds 8 rounds (7+1). Gotta try them tomorrow and see what kind of knock down power they have.

nice. Who made the fore-end??

Very nice! I have something similar in the works. Is that a Mesa stock adapter or Cav Arms?

Looks great. What is the total weight as shown, loaded?

Please report on the mini slugs and feeding in the 870 action.

Very nice. That’s the ONE NFA thing we aren’t allowed in my state, or I’d have done it to my 870P a long time ago.

Scattergun:
The forend came from Wilson Combat but I think you can get the same one cheaper from Ergo.

khc3:
The stock is a Mesa Tactical.

Disciple:
I have no idea what it weighs. It is light enough to shoot a a hundred rounds or so and not feel like your arms are going to fall off. Recoil seems to be “less” than when it had an 18.5" bbl. The Aquila mini slugs cycle fine but I have not fired them yet so I don’t “really know” if it will eject empties without any problems yet.

Did you run the Mesa High-Tube with the 18.5" barrel? Can you comment on how the Mesa affects recoil, muzzle rise and follow-ups, in comparison to a conventional stock?

is the fore-arm the long or short? Would it be possible to see a picture of the inside of the fore-arm? The reason I am asking is I am wanting to replace the wood fore-arm on my shorty 870 and need to know if there is enough material on the inside to re-machine it to fit my gun. The modified walnut on mine finally broke under the abuse.

ok, I have to ask…

where the frick do I get one of those?!?

DLASK Arms in Canada. I bought two of them through ebay a couple of months ago

That is a neat shotgun. I plan to cut to 12 when I get my paperwork back.

I just cycled some of the Aquila Mini Slugs through it indoors without actually firing. It holds 7+1 even with no mag tube extension. It cycles fine but I don’t know how it will do with empty hulls that small. Hope to get outdoors this weekend and see if the mini’s will knock down steel poppers at, let’s say, 50 yards.

This doesn’t help my urge to finish my 870.

I want to know about the stop on your forend… Your shorty is sweet. I might have to go that route with my 2nd 870 I just picked up!

Falboy: The hand stop on the forend is made by Ergo Grip and costs $5 before delivery. It has the same feel as their rubber overmold grips and is a lot more comfortable than the aluminum ACE stop I had on it before.

Very cool - I’d like to do something similar. Just out of curiosity, with ear pro subjectively speaking how much louder is a 12" or 14" barrel than an 18"?

aful: I only wear foam ear plugs and to tell you the truth I honestly cannot tell the difference between the 12" bbl. and the 18" bbl. even with slugs or 00 buck.

same thing with my 7 inch barreled 870

How easy is it to attach an AR based stock onto the Mesa Tactical unit?

Seems like their setups are pretty straight forward and allow for a “buffer tube” setup to be added like (Im assuming…) similar to how you attach one onto a Sig 556.

Your shotgun is pretty neat. I’ve noticed there’s almost no difference between LOP on my 870 w MT Enidine M4 and the other one with a Hogue Bantam. The Micro works quite well on the MT saddle rail, BTW.

Did you use yellow enamel to fill in the Dlask mag cap? Be nice if they did one with Elmer Fudd. I used to like saying “Hewwoh, Wabbit” when pointing a 14-in. 870 at bad people.
