Wanting to use a Miculek brake on my 6.8, I have had a tough time finding one that fits a 1/2"-28 barrel. Speaking with customer service at YHM, they mention reaming a .223" brake to .375". The bullet diameter for a 6.8 round is .277", that means there would be an air gap of almost .100". What I am looking for is if in fact there is specification for the air gap on a muzzle brake to work efficiently. And how does the air gap affect the overall accuracy.
We happen to be working on a new muzzle brake design for 5.56mm and are using an opening of .300". You don’t need a great deal of air gap and we keep it on the tight side to balance the pressure between it and the directional ports.
